Do you want to stay safe?

Walk in Wisdom to Stay Safe

Get wisdom! Get understanding! . . . Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.

    Proverbs 4:5, 7

It gives me such assurance to know that the Lord can deliver us from trouble. But do you know what’s better than being delivered from trouble?

Not getting into trouble in the first place.

My dear reader, don’t just seek miracles and protection from God without seeking the wisdom from Him to stay protected and out of trouble. There are times when the challenges that we face are beyond our control. But I’ve found that often, we experience His protection when we follow the Holy Spirit and lean on His wisdom when making decisions.

Every day, we need His wisdom, just as we need His protection. After all, Proverbs 4:7 tells us that “wisdom is the principal thing,” and in all our getting, we need to get wisdom.

The Bible tells us that Christ has become for us wisdom from God (1 Cor. 1:30). So what we really need is the Lord Jesus. We need to lean on Him and draw close to Him daily.

He is our wisdom and only He can cause us to always be at the right place at the right time. I believe that many troubles and dangerous situations can be completely avoided when we don’t depend on our own wisdom and planning, but involve the Lord in all that we do (Prov. 3:6).

    How do you feel safe?

Oftentimes, wisdom and divine protection work hand in hand. Knowing that we can trust God for His protection certainly does not mean that we should willfully put ourselves in precarious situations.

We need to apply wisdom and heed the Lord’s leading through the wise counsel of the people around us, such as our leaders in the local church and our spouses. Proverbs 11:14 tells us, “Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.” For instance, if your spouse has been telling you that you have a problem with speeding, please take heed.

While there can be divine protection, do not be foolish and think that you can do whatever you want and nothing untoward will ever happen to you. I pray that as you involve the Lord and learn to walk in wisdom, you’ll begin to walk in a greater measure of peace, protection, and good success.

My First Day Exploring Liberia’s Historic Landmarks

Monrovia, the capital of Liberia. It is home to numerous Liberia’s historic landmarks that reflect the nation’s rich history, culture, and aspirations. From grand historical sites to modern monuments, each location tells a unique story.

Liberia, established in 1847, is Africa’s oldest republic, founded by freed African Americans through the efforts of the American Colonization Society. The nation’s history is marked by its unique blend of indigenous African cultures and the Americo-Liberian settlers’ heritage. Despite periods of civil strife, Liberia remains a symbol of resilience and unity, striving to honor its rich historical legacy.

When I was researching Liberia, I noticed something surprising—most tourists don’t seem to have much to say about it. Seriously, where are the juicy stories and glowing reviews? That’s when I realized Liberia’s charm isn’t about flashy attractions; it’s about its incredible history as one of the oldest countries in West Africa. So, I decided to dive in and share this treasure trove of key monuments you absolutely need to check out. Get ready for a little history, a lot of culture, and maybe even some Instagram-worthy spots!

Discovering Liberia’s Historic Landmarks: the Centennial Pavilion

Built in 1947 to commemorate Liberia’s centennial independence, the Centennial Pavilion is a significant historical and cultural landmark in Monrovia. Its grand architectural design blends traditional Liberian aesthetics with colonial influences, symbolizing national pride and unity.

The Pavilion has hosted numerous pivotal events, including presidential inaugurations and state ceremonies. Inside, beautifully decorated interiors feature murals and artifacts narrating Liberia’s history and celebrating its prominent figures. The spacious hall exudes dignity and grandeur, making it a fitting venue for both official and cultural celebrations.

Over the years, the Centennial Pavilion has become a cherished site for Liberians and tourists alike, representing the nation’s milestones and its aspirations for a brighter future.

    Liberia’s Centennial Pavilion

The day I visited the Centennial Pavilion, the guards were in a terrible mood—rude, harsh, and totally unapproachable. Even the Liberian guy from my lodging tried to reason with them, but nope, they weren’t having it. I’d read blogs about people bribing their way in, but there was no way I was paying to enter what’s supposed to be a public space (weddings happen there, for goodness’ sake!). Sadly, I didn’t get inside, but hey, at least I got a wild story out of it!

Photographing the Chamber of Commerce Monument

The Chamber of Commerce Monument in Monrovia stands as a striking representation of Liberia’s economic progress and entrepreneurial spirit. As a hub of business activity, it reflects the dynamism of the nation’s economy.

Monuments like these serve as visual reminders of a country’s achievements and its ongoing journey. Along with cultural landmarks, museums, and historical sites, they offer deep insights into Liberia’s identity and heritage. Capturing photographs of the Chamber of Commerce Monument allows visitors to preserve and appreciate a piece of the nation’s economic and cultural narrative.

Liberia’s economy is primarily driven by agriculture, mining, and forestry, with rubber and iron ore being major export commodities. Despite challenges, the nation has experienced steady growth in recent years, with GDP rising by an average of 3–5%. However, unemployment and poverty remain significant issues, as over 50% of the population lives below the poverty line. Liberia is making strides in economic reform and attracting foreign investment, particularly in infrastructure and energy, to boost sustainable development.

Exploring the Former Ducor Hotel: Liberia’s historic landmarks with fame

Perched on Ducor Hill, the former Ducor Hotel is a historic landmark rich in cultural significance. Opened in 1960, it was one of Africa’s first five-star hotels, symbolizing luxury and progress during its prime.

The hotel hosted numerous dignitaries and was a beacon of Liberia’s pre-civil war prosperity. During its prime, the Ducor Hotel hosted several notable dignitaries and world leaders. Guests reportedly included Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia, Ivorian President Félix Houphouët-Boigny, and Guinean President Ahmed Sékou Touré. It also welcomed high-profile visitors from various industries and organizations, as it was a hub for international diplomacy and luxury in West Africa.

Though now in ruins, it retains its mid-20th-century modernist charm and offers breathtaking panoramic views of Monrovia, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Mesurado River.

Walking through its empty halls evokes a sense of nostalgia and potential, as the site holds great promise for restoration and preservation. The Ducor Hotel remains a testament to Liberia’s vibrant history and the importance of safeguarding its landmarks for future generations.

This location is heavily secured, so be sure to follow all security guard instructions during your visit. Keep in mind that access is not always guaranteed to the public.

Visiting the Monument of Joseph Jenkins Roberts

The monument dedicated to Joseph Jenkins Roberts is the most beautiful od all Liberia’s historic landmarks. He was Liberia’s first president. This monument is a towering tribute to a pivotal figure in the nation’s history.

Born in Norfolk, Virginia, in 1809, Roberts emigrated to Liberia in 1829 and rose to prominence as a leader.

After Liberia’s declaration of independence in 1847, Roberts became its first president, serving two terms (1848–1856 and 1872–1876). He focused on building a sovereign state, fostering economic growth, and strengthening international relations.

This monument celebrates his enduring legacy as a founding father of Liberia. Through statues, institutions, and landmarks bearing his name, Roberts’ contributions to the nation’s independence and development remain vividly remembered.

The Monument of Joseph Jenkins Roberts features a tall, bronze statue of the statesman, standing atop a large stone pedestal. The statue captures Roberts in formal attire, with one hand raised, as if addressing an audience, and the other holding a book or document, symbolizing knowledge. The pedestal is engraved with his name and adorned with decorative details, giving it an air of grandeur.

The monument is surrounded by a paved area with steps leading up to it, often accompanied by neatly maintained landscaping, providing a dignified and serene setting.

I was impressed by the efforts to honor this former president. The artistic designs on the pillar were definitely my favorite part.

Admiring the oldest of Liberia’s historic landmarks

Near the former Ducor Hotel, an ancient lighthouse stands as a monument to Liberia’s maritime heritage. Historically, it guided ships and monitored foreign threats, ensuring safe passage and preventing shipwrecks.

Located atop a hill, the lighthouse offers stunning views of Monrovia and its surroundings. Beyond its practical use, it symbolizes safety and resilience, marking a strategic point of Liberia’s coastline.

As one of Monrovia’s landmarks, the lighthouse holds significant historical and cultural value, making it a fascinating site for visitors and photographers. Its enduring presence is a testament to the city’s rich maritime history.

Liberia’s historic landmarks collectively narrate the city’s past, present, and future. They are not only sites of historical significance but also sources of inspiration, reminding all who visit of Liberia’s resilience and aspirations.

A Transformative Experience: My Review of New Creation Church

If you’re seeking an uplifting and grace-filled church, New Creation Church in Singapore is a must-visit. Known for its life-changing teachings, passionate worship, and welcoming atmosphere, it’s a place where faith flourishes. New Creation Church is a non-denominational, Charismatic megachurch that was founded in 1984 by a group of young leaders, including Joseph Prince, Henry Yeo, David Yeow, and Jack Ho.

I wholeheartedly recommend New Creation Church (NCC) as a place of fellowship. For over a decade, I have been deeply blessed by the sermons of Senior Pastor Joseph Prince. My journey with his teachings began in the early 2000s, during my time at Gospel of Christ Ministry in Cameroon, where I fellowshipped. It was there that Dr. Shawn Smith introduced us to Pastor Prince’s revolutionary, grace-centered messages, describing them as divinely inspired.

Curious to learn more, I sought out Pastor Prince’s teachings for myself. Initially, I watched his short broadcasts on GOD TV through our cable network. Over the last seven years, however, I’ve transitioned to watching most of his sermons on YouTube. His messages have profoundly impacted my life, strengthening my faith and understanding of God’s grace.

This ongoing inspiration led me to take a significant step—traveling to Singapore in 2023 to worship at NCC and witness Pastor Prince in person. That journey remains one of the highlights of my life, as I will share in the narrative below.

Who is the Senior Pastor of New Creation Church?

Pastor Joseph Prince is the Senior Pastor of New Creation Church (NCC) in Singapore and a globally renowned preacher, known for his profound teachings on God’s grace. With over three decades of ministry, he has revolutionized the understanding of grace for millions around the world through his sermons, books, and online broadcasts.

His messages focus on the finished work of Jesus Christ, emphasizing that believers are loved, forgiven, and empowered to live victoriously by God’s grace. Pastor Prince’s teachings are deeply rooted in Scripture, offering practical insights that make the Bible relevant to everyday life.

In addition to leading NCC, Pastor Prince is a best-selling author of books such as Destined to Reign and The Power of Right Believing. His work has reached audiences worldwide, with many describing his messages as transformative and life-changing. Pastor Prince’s ministry extends beyond the church, with a global reach through television broadcasts, online platforms, and conferences. His passion for sharing the gospel of grace has made him a prominent voice in the Christian world, inspiring countless believers to deepen their faith and experience the fullness of God’s love.

New Creation Church: Engaging Worship That Inspires

At NCC, worship is dynamic and heartfelt. Modern music blends seamlessly with sermons that touch the soul. The worship team’s incredible talent fills the room with energy, and God’s presence.

Worshiping at New Creation Church was pure joy! I felt free to worship in my own way, often overwhelmed with tears of gratitude. For four Sundays, the vibrant worship filled me with God’s indescribable joy.

The songs were a mix of popular gospel hits and beautiful originals. One song that stayed with me was Face to Face. I can’t recall all the verses, but the chorus is etched in my heart:
“Face to face with You (2x).
Here I stand, in awe and wonder,
In the presence of my King.
Every fear will fade, every tear You wipe away.
I am complete, I am made whole, in Your presence.”

Those words brought peace to my soul. I knelt in thanksgiving, weeping with gratitude for the chance to praise God. The worship setup was incredible! High-quality musical equipment, crystal-clear sound, vibrant lights, and a giant screen with lyrics made every moment electric. Singing, dancing, and even jumping for joy felt natural and amazing. It was easily one of the best worship experiences of my life!

New Creation Church Services and Locations

Mian services are held every Sunday at The Star Performing Arts Centre, (SPAC) owned by NCC, a stunning venue that enhances worship. This Centre in Singapore is an architectural masterpiece and a world-class infrastructure. NCC uses just one part. Located in the vibrant area of Buona Vista, this state-of-the-art facility boasts a 5,000-seat auditorium with excellent acoustics and cutting-edge audio-visual technology. The sleek and modern design provides a welcoming atmosphere, making it an ideal space for large gatherings, conferences, and performances.

The venue also features comfortable seating, spacious foyers, and easy accessibility, ensuring a seamless experience for attendees. Its blend of functionality and elegance has made it a popular destination for events, offering a truly memorable experience for all who visit.

The SPAC in Singapore is not just a venue; it’s a complete experience. The building houses several restaurants and shops, making it convenient for visitors to dine and shop before or after events. Here are some reviews from Google.

My Experience at New Creation Church

NCC is massive, with thousands attending every Sunday. To manage the crowd, there are two services at The Star. Pastor Joseph Prince usually preaches during the first service, which is the one to attend if you want to see him live. His sermon is rebroadcast in the second service.

On my first visit, I felt sad because Pastor Prince was on sabbatical. One of the leaders welcomed me, prayed with me, and encouraged me to believe I’d see him. God answered my prayer! On my second Sunday, Pastor Prince unexpectedly showed up. I was so overjoyed I cried! For the rest of my visits, I didn’t see him again, but his trained pastors delivered amazing sermons, and we even watched a pre-recorded message on the big screens.

With time to spare during my vacation, I made the most of my NCC experience. Between services, I spent two hours exploring The Star. The building is gigantic, perfect for window shopping and grabbing a bite. I enjoyed some delicious meals, including a stop at Nando’s—a favorite of mine from Malaysia. If you’re visiting, I highly recommend it!

Where Else Can You Fellowship at NCC?

New Creation Church has a registered congregation of 31,000, with a weekly attendance of 14,700 in 2022. While The Star Performing Arts Centre is the main venue, NCC has expanded to six service locations across Singapore, including concert halls, theaters, and ballrooms.

Since I knew I wouldn’t see Pastor Prince live again, I decided to visit another venue at one of the famous Marina Bay Sands hotels. NCC rents several large halls on the top floor, where services are live-streamed from The Star. The vibe was similar, with a different praise team, fewer instruments, but the same songs and service structure. After the service, congregants gathered in another hall for coffee and fellowship.

Sarah at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel New Creation Church branch

I was warmly welcomed by several people, and one lady went out of her way to help me register for the youth conference. The delicious coffee and friendly atmosphere made me feel right at home. Given the thousands of people who visit Marina Bay daily, it’s a great strategic location for one of NCC’s branches!

Can’t make it in person? Join the church’s global community online.

Details on service times and locations are easy to find on the church’s website and app.

How Am I Involved in NCC?

Since my return, I’ve continued watching Pastor Prince’s sermons on YouTube, even though they’re no longer live. I’ve also subscribed to the daily devotional on his website, where I receive uplifting emails directly from the church’s communication team. I also share these devotionals on my social media platforms daily, as well as some on my blog. My desire is for others to be blessed and encouraged, just as I am every day.

Sometimes, I get sermon excerpts and encouraging words that remind me of God’s love.

One of the best features of the joseph prince app is the Bible study section, which offers tons of videos of Pastor Prince expounding on the Bible. For my 2025 goal to read the entire Bible, I plan to use the app exclusively. As a Gospel Partner, I support the ministry’s efforts to spread the Gospel worldwide in various languages by sharing and donating whenever I can. It’s truly been a blessing to remain connected and involved, even from continents away.

    Nurturing Kids and Youth

New Creation Church is committed to raising the next generation in faith. Rock Kidz, the children’s ministry, offers fun activities and age-appropriate Bible lessons. Teenagers connect through Generation Youth (GY), where they grow spiritually and participate in exciting events and mission trips.

I was fortunate to attend one of the youth conferences, and it was an absolute blast! The church is truly intentional about creating a fun, God-centered experience for the young generation. The conference was well-structured and organized—participants had to register online, which I did.

On the day of the event at The Star, the venue was beautifully decorated, and there were so many youths, which really impressed me. The event kicked off with Christian games, dance performances, and a host of other activities. We were treated to free food and drinks, and we even received fans to combat the hot Singapore weather, along with a variety of encouraging items. These activities took place in the lobbies.

Youth Conference at New Creation Church
Youth Conference at New Creation Church

The second part of the conference moved into the church auditorium, where we had an energetic praise and worship session. We sang, danced, and celebrated being youthfully alive. Shortly after, the youth pastor delivered a powerful 30- to 40-minute sermon. By the end, several youths chose to give their lives to Christ. It was the perfect way to wrap up my final days in beautiful Singapore!

    Build Community with Connect Groups

Small groups, called Connect Groups, are the heart of New Creation Church’s community. These gatherings create a space for members to study the Bible, pray, and support one another. Whether meeting in homes or online, Connect Groups help you forge meaningful relationships while deepening your faith.

I heard about this but didn’t inquire in detail since I knew I would be leaving the country. However, if I were staying longer, I definitely would have joined one.

Making a Difference Through Outreach and Missions

New Creation Church actively reaches out to those in need, both in Singapore and worldwide. Partnering with organizations, the church offers practical help and shares God’s love. Members can join mission trips to bring hope and transformation to communities globally.

I learned about NCC’s global collaborations during the service when Pastor Prince was there. Apparently, he doesn’t just send members to carry out mission activities; he sends his close associate pastors. That Sunday, none of them were in Singapore, and I like to think Pastor Prince came because of me! He took a few minutes to share pictures and videos of the mission activities his pastors were leading in various Asian countries. There are definitely many. You can find more details about these mission works on the church website.

Special Events to Grow and Celebrate

From worship nights to international conferences, New Creation Church hosts events that inspire and equip believers. Renowned speakers and worship leaders create unforgettable experiences. Events like the Grace Revolution Tour are highlights you won’t want to miss.

I’ve seen videos of Pastor Prince ministering at Hillsong conferences in Australia and alongside Joel Osteen in the USA. I’m sure he ministers at many other events as well.

    Why Visit New Creation Church?

New Creation Church is a haven of grace, joy, and community. It’s a great place for those starting their faith journey or wanting to grow deeper in God’s love. The focus on grace creates a transformative experience that leaves you refreshed and inspired.

Secondly, I recommend attending the church because it’s a wonderful opportunity to fellowship with other believers. I was pleasantly surprised and encouraged by the practice of taking communion every Sunday. The church provides it for free in small packs, and everyone picks one upon arrival.

The church offers an amazing welcome package to all first-timers, which includes a free book, encouraging leaflets, and resources authored by Pastor Prince himself.

New Creation Church is more than a church—it’s a family. With inspiring worship, active ministries, and a global reach, it’s a place where you can encounter God’s love and grace. Visit in Singapore or online to experience the difference for yourself!

The Mosaic of Mombasa: Waves and Whispers of History

Mombasa, Kenya’s vibrant coastal city, is a melting pot of cultures, history, and natural beauty. Its old town enchants visitors with narrow streets, ancient architecture, and the lingering scents of spices, while its beaches offer soft sands and tranquil waves.

The city pulses with life, from colorful markets and bustling matatus to modern malls and diverse cuisine. Mombasa’s charm lies in its ability to blend the past and present, offering travelers a unique experience filled with warmth, history, and adventure.

When I landed in Mombasa in 2022, I was unsure which part will be best to live in. All I wanted was the beach. Bamburi quickly became my choice. Bamburi, is a lively coastal area in Mombasa. It is known for its stunning beaches, bustling markets, and vibrant local culture.

The golden sands of Bamburi Beach invite relaxation, while the nearby shops and stalls offer everything from handcrafted souvenirs to refreshing roadside coconuts. With its mix of natural beauty and urban energy, Bamburi is a perfect spot for both tranquil beach therapy and adventurous exploration.

Here are a few things I did within a couple of days of enjoying the coastal life in what I consider Kenya’s second most influential city.

Bamburi Beach: A Therapy in the Sand

I arrived at Bamburi Beach without a swimsuit, but the roadside shops had everything anyone could need. Instead of diving into the waves, I freed my colorful Kenyan slippers and let the sand kiss my feet. The beach was warm, the breeze playful, and the waves whispered tales of hope.

As I walked, humming songs and offering prayers, I felt each splash against my feet like therapy for the soul. The waves reminded me of life’s rhythm—God’s endless grace, whether life’s tides are high or low.

The sand was soft, embracing my feet with every step, though the wind tangled my thick afro and sprayed salty water on my edges. By sunset, my hair felt brittle, but the joy of the experience was worth the rinse when I returned home.

    Sarah at bamburi beach
    Sarah at bamburi beach

Before leaving, I indulged in roasted corn by the roadside. Its charred aroma was familiar, a nostalgic bite that connected Kenya and Cameroon, though the freshness was not quite the same.

    Market Adventures: A Pricey Lesson

My friend’s request for Kenyan beaded sandals took me deep into the buzzing Mombasa market. The stalls were alive with color and chatter, a labyrinth of treasures waiting to be found. I called my friend via video to pick her favorites. They heard my accent and knew I was a foreigner. “Four dollars,” they said, and I thought I’d struck a bargain. Proudly carrying my purchase, I stumbled upon another stall.

The sandals were a mere $1.50 there. I showed the new vendors my overpriced buy, and their laughter was contagious. Scammed three times in one market! Embarrassed but amused, I joined in their laughter.

    Sarah at Mombasa market

A fresh roadside coconut soothed my thirst and my pride.

My advice? Always ask locals for price guidance—it’s wisdom I somehow ignored that day.

City Mall: Shopping Under the Sun

City Mall in Bamburi is a bustling hub of activity, offering a blend of modern shopping and cultural charm. From stylish boutiques and local craft stalls to rooftop treasures like handmade leather wallets and vibrant Kenyan art, the mall has something for everyone. Its open-air section, bathed in sunlight, showcases the creativity of local artisans, making it a perfect spot to shop for unique souvenirs while soaking in the lively coastal atmosphere.

City Mall had treasures of its own, from handmade leather wallets to vibrant Kenyan art. On the rooftop, I found a wallet so well-crafted that it remains in my pocket today, a souvenir of high quality at a surprisingly low cost.

Sarah shopping at Bamburi City Mall.

Wooden sculptures, colorful clothing, and sandals filled the stalls. The open-air section glowed under the sun, each item a piece of Kenya’s vibrant culture.

    Wandering Through Old Town Mombasa

Old Town in Mombasa is a captivating blend of history and culture, where narrow streets wind through centuries-old buildings adorned with intricate wooden carvings and balconies. The air is filled with the scent of spices and sea breeze, reflecting the town’s rich Swahili, Arab, and Portuguese influences.

Walking through its alleys reveals hidden gems like antique shops, historical landmarks, and bustling markets, each whispering stories of a bygone era. Old Town is a living museum, offering a glimpse into Mombasa’s vibrant past.

I heard a lot about this place and I was curious. Indeed, Old Town Mombasa is a page torn from history. The ancient houses stood proud, their intricate architecture whispering tales of the past.

The streets carried the scent of time, with every turn revealing a monument, a story, or a shadow of the past. The charm of Mombasa’s old town lies in its timelessness, a perfect counter to its bustling modernity.

I took a loud, colorful matatu bus, feeling like I’d been wrapped in a kaleidoscope. It was cheap and cheerful, though navigating Uber proved a challenge.

    Fast Bites and Slow Discoveries

Hungry and curious, I tried KFC in Mombasa. The fries lacked crunch, and the chicken’s dough tasted oddly raw. Still, it filled my stomach, a quick fix for a traveler on the move. For a deeper culinary experience, I sought local Kenyan dishes.

Kenyan food is a flavorful fusion of indigenous ingredients and cultural influences, offering hearty dishes like ugali, sukuma wiki, and nyama choma. Fresh seafood is a coastal favorite, while inland regions highlight grains, beans, and rich stews. The vibrant use of spices and herbs adds a unique depth to Kenyan cuisine, making every meal a celebration of its diverse heritage.

A bowl of rice and chicken sauce welcomed me one day. Its thick, flavorful gravy mirrored my own recipes, though the spices carried an non-native mystery. Another day, the hotel receptionist convinced me to try ugali with egg sauce and vegetables. The fufu was different from Cameroon’s, heavier and less familiar. But the leafy garnish on my plate made the meal feel like art, and I savored the moment.

If you are not a picky eater like me, you’ll probably like Kenyan food.

Mombasa offered me waves, laughter, lessons, and tastes I’ll never forget. From the sands of Bamburi to the crowded alleys of its market, every corner sang a different song. Each step was a reminder of life’s surprises—sometimes salty, sometimes sweet, but always memorable.

Do you know God has no condemnation towards you?

If you didn’t know, now you know. Regardless of what you feel you have done, God is not a jobless Magistrate waiting for you to do a wrong thing for Him to declare condemnation as punishment. I used to think so until I decided to start reading the devotionals from Pastor Joseph Prince and I realized that, God loves me.

Here’s a short devotional of what he wrote about this topic.

“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”

    John 3:17

The account of the woman caught in adultery demonstrates something very important. What enables someone to have the power to overcome sin?

The threat of the law obviously didn’t stop the woman from committing adultery. But receiving Jesus’ acceptance—knowing that even though she deserved to be stoned to death, He did not condemn her—that gave her the power to “go and sin no more.”

Notice that Jesus saved the woman righteously. He didn’t say, “Don’t stone her. Show mercy to her.” What He said was, “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” And on their own accord, the Pharisees and religious mob all left.

Notice also that Jesus did not ask the woman, “Why did you sin?” No, what He asked was, “Has no one condemned you?”

It seems as if Jesus was more preoccupied with the condemnation of the sin than the sin itself. He made sure that she walked away not feeling the condemnation and shame.

Why should you belief that God doesn’t have condemnation against you?

Let’s not reverse God’s order. When God says something comes first, it must come first. God says “no condemnation” comes first, and then you can “go and sin no more.”

Christian religion has it in reverse. We say, “Go and sin no more first, then we won’t condemn you.”

What we need to understand is that when there is no condemnation, people are empowered to live victorious lives, lives that glorify Jesus. Grace produces an effortless empowerment through the revelation of no condemnation.

It is unmerited and completely undeserved. But we can receive it—this gift of no condemnation—because Jesus paid for it at the cross.

Truth be told, none of us could have cast the first stone. We have all sinned and fallen short. In Christ, we are all on equal ground.

If a brother or sister gets tangled in sin, our place is not to judge them, but to restore them by pointing them to the forgiveness and gift of no condemnation that are found in Jesus.

The only person who is without sin and who could have exercised judicial punishment on the woman was Jesus, and He did not. Jesus was in the flesh to represent what was in God’s heart. It wasn’t judgment. His heart is unveiled in His grace and His forgiveness.

I like to say it this way when describing what happened as the Pharisees waited to stone the woman: The Pharisees would if they could, but they could not. Jesus could if He would, but He would not. That’s our Jesus!

Choosing the Best SIM Card in Cameroon

Planning a trip to Central Africa and unsure how to stay online? Here’s a quick review of the best SIM card in Cameroon.

Internet access in Cameroon has steadily improved in recent years, but it still faces challenges in terms of coverage, speed, and affordability. Major cities like Yaoundé and Douala generally have good internet connectivity, with mobile data services offered by providers like MTN, Orange, and Camtel.

However, rural areas may experience slower speeds and less reliable service. Despite these hurdles, the growing availability of 4G networks and increasing competition among telecom companies has made the internet more accessible to Cameroonians and visitors alike, offering a variety of mobile data plans to suit different needs and budgets.

Which telecom has the best SIM card in Cameroon?

When using a SIM card in Cameroon, MTN is widely regarded as the best option. It offers extensive coverage, especially in urban areas. MTN provides fast internet speeds and reliable network service, making it ideal for both locals and visitors. The prices for a new SIM card with MTN are typically affordable. You can buy a standard SIM card for around 1000 CFA, and their data plans start at approximately 500 CFA for 1GB, with more data options available for longer durations.

Another popular choice for SIM cards in Cameroon is Orange Cameroon. Orange offers solid network coverage in major cities and towns, though it might not be as widespread in rural areas as MTN. Orange SIM cards also cost about 1000 CFA. Their data packages are competitive, with prices starting at 500 CFA for 1GB. Orange also offers a variety of data bundles suited for different usage needs.

Camtel, the state-owned network, is a more affordable option, especially for domestic calls. While its coverage might not be as extensive as MTN or Orange, it is still a good choice in some areas, particularly for local calls and data. Camtel’s SIM cards are priced around 1000 CFA, with data plans starting at 500 CFA for 1GB. Camtel offers decent internet speeds, but its coverage may not be as reliable in more remote areas.

Overall, MTN offers the best coverage and faster internet speeds, especially for international tourists who need reliable service. Orange provides a solid alternative with competitive data plans, while Camtel is a budget-friendly choice for domestic usage. When choosing a SIM card in Cameroon, consider your data needs, location, and budget. I use both Orange and MTN.

Do you know nothing can seperate you from the love of God?

    Nothing Means Nothing!

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

    Romans 8:38–39

I often hear people say, “God’s love is unconditional!” But the moment they fail, all of a sudden, the love they once said was unconditional becomes contingent upon their behavior.

Many believe that God loves them when they do right, but stops loving them the moment they do something wrong. Well, I’m going to shatter that wrong belief into smithereens with the truth of God’s Word!

While our love for God can fluctuate, His love for us always remains constant. His love for us is based on who He is and not based on what we do.

Why did God say nothing can divide us from hm?

I love just how confident and emphatic the apostle Paul is when he says, “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom. 8:38–39). In the New International Version, it says, “For I am convinced . . .”

Are you persuaded and convinced the way the apostle Paul is that as a child of God, nothing, not even your sins, failings, and mistakes, can ever separate you from the love of God? Don’t go by what you feel, think, or have been taught. God’s Word proclaims in no uncertain terms that nothing can separate you from His love. Nothing means nothing!

His love for you is not contingent on your immaculate performance. He loves you even in your failings. That’s why it is called grace! It is the undeserved, unmerited, and unearned favor of God. If you can deserve God’s grace, then it is no longer grace.

So the next time you do something wrong, hold fast to His love as unconditional. Receive His love afresh, and you will have the power to overcome that failing—and every struggle—every time.

ASKY Airlines: Affordable Flights Across West and Central Africa

ASKY Airlines, established in June 2008 and based in Lomé, Togo, has become a leading regional carrier in West and Central Africa. It officially launched operations in January 2010 with the mission of enhancing connectivity across African nations.

ASKY Airlines serves over 20 destinations, providing vital links within the region and offering connections to Europe and the Middle East. Known for its modern fleet and focus on affordability, the airline aims to make air travel accessible to more people while maintaining reliable service.

ASKY Airlines operates a fleet of 14 aircraft, comprising 10 Boeing 737-800s, 2 Boeing 737-700s, and 2 Boeing 737-MAX 8s. These planes are configured to include both business and economy class seating, ensuring a modern and efficient travel experience with an average fleet age of just 5 years. This commitment to operating new or nearly new aircraft makes ASKY’s fleet one of the most advanced in West and Central Africa.

The airline has a strategic partnership with Ethiopian Airlines, which supports its operational and growth strategies. This collaboration has allowed ASKY to expand its network and services while leveraging Ethiopian Airlines’ expertise in aviation management.

For travelers seeking efficient regional transport, ASKY Airlines offers a practical and budget-friendly option.

This post is my review of ASKY. After a few travels with them, I think its worth sharing my travel experience and key details.

Booking and Reservations on ASKY airlines

Booking with ASKY Airlines is simple. The airline’s website is easy to use. You can search flights, compare prices, and book tickets quickly.

Their mobile app is also handy. I found it great for managing reservations.

Several online platforms list ASKy flights. ASKY Airlines flights are widely available through various travel agencies, both online and offline, making it convenient for passengers to book their trips. These agencies often list ASKY’s routes alongside other carriers, enabling travelers to compare flight options, schedules, and prices in one place. Online travel agencies like Expedia, Booking.com, and regional platforms provide seamless booking services, allowing users to reserve flights, manage itineraries, and access exclusive deals.

Traditional travel agencies also play a key role, especially in regions where digital access may be limited. These agencies assist passengers in finding suitable flight options, understanding baggage policies, and navigating visa requirements. By collaborating with a broad network of travel agencies, ASKY Airlines extends its accessibility, ensuring that customers can easily book tickets across its extensive African network and international destinations.

ASKY Boarding pass and google search flight search.

The first time I used ASKY Airlines was in 2011, and I booked my ticket from their main office in Yaoundé, Cameroon. ASKY also has offices in Douala and at the airport, making it relatively convenient to access their services in major cities. However, I would not recommend relying on phone calls to make bookings with them in Cameroon, as their phone services are often unreliable. Similarly, emailing them is not advisable since I have never received a response to any of my emails sent to their Cameroon offices.

For a more efficient alternative, you can safely book flights online using a credit card on their official website. Not only is this method more reliable, but it also comes with the added advantage of lower fares. The key is that ticket prices are typically cheaper online compared to those offered at their physical offices. If you’re unable to visit an office, booking online is the most convenient and cost-effective option.

Fleet and Comfort inside ASKY airlines planes

ASKY Airlines operates modern aircraft. Most flights use Boeing 737s or Bombardier Dash 8 planes. The airplanes are moderately sized, providing a comfortable experience for economy-class passengers like me. There’s generally enough legroom to stretch your legs during the flight, which makes the journey more pleasant.

Business class, from the glimpses I’ve had, doesn’t seem overly luxurious, apart from the leather seats and a few additional perks. Hopefully, someday I’ll get the chance to experience business class firsthand and compare the difference for myself.

In general, the seating is comfortable for short or medium flights.

    Efficient Cabin Maintenance During Transits

ASKY Airlines ensures that its cabins remain clean and well-maintained, even during layovers. Since transits are common on budget-friendly flights, the cleaning crew quickly enters the plane to tidy up the empty seats vacated by departing passengers. This process is swift and efficient, with crew members removing any leftover trash and wiping down seats if necessary. I’ve always been impressed by how promptly they manage this, ensuring that the cabin remains fresh and comfortable for the next batch of travelers. It’s one of those small touches that really shows ASKY’s attention to detail and customer care.

However, amenities can differ depending on the route. Some ASKY planes, especially those used for shorter flights lasting 1-2 hours, don’t have TVs for watching movies or other forms of in-flight entertainment. In fact, having taken several of these short-haul flights, I’ve rarely encountered a plane equipped with this feature. My assumption is that larger planes used for long-haul or intercontinental routes are more likely to include such amenities, as they cater to passengers who spend extended hours in the air.

ASKY Airlines provides a large screen visible to all passengers, showing the flight route for public viewing, which adds a nice touch of entertainment and information. They also offer headsets upon request for in-flight listening.

While I’ve never specifically asked for a blanket, I’m unsure whether they provide one, as I’ve never needed one during my short African flights. It would be worth asking the cabin crew if it’s something you might require during your trip.

Check-In and Boarding at ASKY airlines

Online check-in is available 24 hours before the flight. You can select seats and print boarding passes. Online check-in, available 24 hours before the flight, is a convenient feature that helps streamline the travel experience. By selecting seats in advance, passengers can secure their preferred spots, whether near the window, aisle, or in exit rows for more legroom.

Printing boarding passes ahead of time saves time at the airport and reduces the risk of delays or confusion. This option is especially useful for avoiding long check-in lines and ensuring a smooth boarding process, allowing travelers to head straight to security or relax before their flight.

Personally, I have never checked-in online while using ASKY, mainly because I slightly struggle with trusting several things online in Africa.

    Advantages of Airport Check-In

Airport check-in counters offer several benefits, especially for travelers who may encounter difficulties with online check-in or prefer in-person assistance. One major advantage is the ability to directly interact with airline staff, which can be helpful in resolving issues like connecting flights or baggage concerns. This face-to-face interaction provides a personalized service that ensures a smoother travel experience, making it a reliable option for many passengers.

Additionally, some airlines like ASKY may offer upgrades or last-minute changes to seating that are easier to arrange in person.

For first-time flyers or those unfamiliar with the process, having a staff member available to guide you through the check-in process can be reassuring.

Lastly, if there are problems with online check-in—such as technical glitches or issues with flight status—airport check-in ensures you still have an option to get assistance directly from the airline.

Those are the many reasons which makes me to go to the airport for check-in. As the proverb says “Prevention is better Cure”.

During peak hours, I recommend arriving early to avoid long queues. Boarding is smooth, with priority given to business class and frequent flyers.

I’ve never had an issue during check-in, and it’s truly commendable. The process has always been smooth and efficient, which makes for a more relaxed travel experience. Whether online or at the airport, ASKY Airlines ensures that passengers are well taken care of from the moment they begin the check-in process.

    In-Flight Experience with ASKY airlines

    • Cabin Crew: When I’ve flown with ASKY Airlines, I’ve always found the cabin crew to be friendly and professional. They greet passengers warmly and are attentive throughout the flight, making sure everyone is comfortable. While the level of service can vary depending on the route or aircraft, I’ve consistently experienced helpfulness and politeness from the staff. Whether it’s assisting with seat preferences or managing in-flight requests, they maintain a high standard of service that adds to the overall positive experience. Most of the cabin crew I’ve encountered on ASKY Airlines were bilingual, though I noticed they spoke French more fluently than English, likely because many were recruited from Togo. I also observed that the crew was diverse in gender, with a good mix of male and female attendants. What stood out to me was how ASKY seems to be redefining the traditional concept of flight attendants. Instead of adhering to the older norm of hiring only very thin women with heavy makeup, they’ve embraced a more authentic African style, hiring people of all sizes. Their brown suits, simple hairstyles, and natural looks made me appreciate how ASKY is maintaining a grounded, inclusive approach to their cabin crew.
    • Meals and Beverages: Complimentary meals are served on most ASKY Airlines routes, and I’ve always enjoyed them. The food is decent, offering a blend of local and international options. On several occasions, I’ve had meals with chicken sauce and rice, bread, cheese, tea, a cup of juice, water, salad, and cake. For short flights, these meals feel quite substantial. I’ve never disembarked from an ASKY flight hungry, and the portions are always fair for me. As a picky eater, I’ve never encountered anything I couldn’t eat, and the meals are not only satisfying but also delicious..

    Punctuality and Reliability

ASKY Airlines has a fair record for on-time flights. However, delays or cancellations do happen occasionally. They keep passengers updated during disruptions, which I appreciated.

I once had a flight from Liberia to Nigeria with a delay that we never quite understood. But here’s the fun twist: during our layover in Togo, ASKY went above and beyond. Instead of letting us grumble, they treated everyone to free food, a soda, and water. And when I say “food,” I mean a feast! They brought out packed meals in disposable containers, and the portion size? Let’s just say it was double, if not triple, what we usually get in those tiny airplane bowls. I happily devoured the meal and couldn’t help but admire their consideration.

Honestly, for a moment, I almost wished for more delays just for the chance to enjoy another surprise meal!

    Baggage Policy at ASKY airlines

Baggage allowances depend on the route and class. Economy passengers can check one bag up to 23 kg and bring one carry-on.

I’ve always found ASKY’s baggage policy pretty fair. I’m usually able to carry two large bags weighing 46 kg in total, plus a 7 kg hand luggage. That’s always been a breeze for me.

However, one time when I flew into Sierra Leone, I had a bit of a strange experience. The zipper on one of my bags had clearly been tampered with—though nothing was stolen, thank goodness! I still don’t know whether it was the baggage handlers in Sierra Leone or the ones in Ghana where I flew from, but I’m sure ASKY had done their part in ensuring my bags were safe. I would have made a bigger fuss if anything had gone missing, but nothing did, so I let it go. It was just such a weird thing to happen—someone had cut off the zipper to avoid the padlock! A mystery I’ll never solve, but definitely one of those bizarre travel stories I won’t forget!

Business class offers more. Check the rules for your route to avoid issues.

    Customer Service

Customer service is generally good. The staff is helpful at the airport. However, during busy times, reaching them can be harder.

I’ve found the staff at the Douala and Yaoundé ASKY offices to be very rude and unhelpful. They mostly speak French, so they disregard English speakers like me. Several times, I’ve had my calls blocked just because I started speaking English. Once, I contacted their WhatsApp number for help. They offered assistance, but when I asked another question later, they read my message and then blocked me.

I needed clarification about canceling a flight and a refund. The Yaoundé office said nothing could be done. But when I went to the Douala office, they canceled the flight in seconds. The refund is still pending, though. The Douala staff answered my calls and provided support, but the experience was still strange.

I recommend being extremely sure before using ASKY, at least in Cameroon.

It’s been a very mixed experience, so if you’re booking with ASKY from Cameroon, I highly recommend being absolutely certain about your plans before proceeding.

    Frequent Flyer Program

The ASKY Club lets you earn and use miles. Members get perks like extra baggage, lounge access, and priority boarding.

    Pros

    • Convenient routes across the region. ASKY Airlines serves 27 destinations across 25 countries in West and Central Africa. These countries include popular locations like Ghana, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, and Kenya, along with several other nations. The airline operates a hub in Lomé, Togo, and has a partnership with Ethiopian Airlines, providing further international connections.
    • Friendly cabin crew.
    • Complimentary meals on most flights.
    • Modern planes.

    Cons

    • Limited entertainment options.
    • Delays and cancellations happen.
    • Customer service quality varies.
    • Seats feel cramped on longer trips.
    • Slow or no refund of cancelled flights. I’ve been waiting for a refund on a canceled flight since August 2024, and it’s starting to feel like a lost cause. Despite calling and sending reminders multiple times, I still haven’t received my money back. The process seems to be dragging on endlessly.

    Conclusion

ASKY Airlines is a solid choice for regional travel. It offers reliable service and reasonable comfort. While it lacks extras found on larger carriers, it balances affordability and convenience well. I recommend ASKY Airlines for flights across West and Central Africa.

Douala International Airport: An In-Depth Review

Douala International Airport (DLA) is a vital gateway to Cameroon and the Central African region. Situated in Douala, Cameroon’s economic hub, the airport caters to a mix of domestic and international travelers.

Douala, Cameroon’s largest city and economic powerhouse, is a vibrant hub of activity located along the Wouri River. Known for its bustling markets, lively streets, and diverse cultural influences, the city serves as a melting pot where traditional African heritage meets modern urban development.

Douala boasts a dynamic art scene, with galleries and cultural centers showcasing local talent, alongside a culinary landscape rich in Cameroonian flavors, from street food delicacies to upscale dining. The city’s tropical climate, punctuated by heavy rains and warm temperatures, adds to its unique charm.

I have traveled through Douala International Airport (DIA) countless times and have observed significant changes over the years. While there is still much to be done to bring it up to modern international standards, it remains the best Cameroon has to offer so far. I have also used Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport once, which is relatively small but fairly modern. Despite its limitations, DIA is currently the most popular and functional airport in the country, although I have yet to visit Garoua International Airport for a comparison. Here’s a detailed breakdown of what to expect at this key transportation hub.

    Outside Douala airport
    Outside Douala airport

Location and Accessibility of the Douala International Airport

Located about 10 kilometers from Douala’s city center, the airport is easily reachable by taxis and private hire services. Many hotels in the area provide shuttle services, offering a reliable alternative for travelers.

Unlike many countries where airports are located on the outskirts of cities, Douala International Airport (DIA) is almost in the heart of the city. In fact, it’s visible from the main express road as you drive through Douala. Taxis are readily available both within the airport and around the city, but one frustrating aspect of transportation here is that many drivers hike their fares, a common issue at airports.

The drive from the airport to Douala’s city center takes barely 15 minutes without traffic. However, due to the city’s high population and frequent congestion, I usually head to the airport at least seven hours before my flight to avoid the unpredictable traffic. With a private hire car and an early morning departure, it’s possible to reach DIA quickly. Unfortunately, many travelers have missed flights due to being caught in severe traffic during early morning or evening rush hours.

What are the major facilities and services at the Douala International Airport?

The airport’s facilities are modest but functional, catering to basic travel needs.

    • Dining and Shopping:
A limited selection of restaurants and cafes. I know there is only one VIP paid lounge available for light meals and refreshments.
    • There are 3 or 4 small duty-free shops which offer products ranging from local souvenirs to travel essentials, although the variety and quality fall short compared to larger international airports. I checked the prices of items at one wine shop and could attest it was very expensive.
    Inside Douala International Airport
    Inside Douala International Airport

Check-In and Security at the Douala International airport

Check-in and security processes at Douala International Airport can be straightforward but often require patience.

    • Check-In:
Long queues are common during peak hours, so arriving early—at least two hours before your flight—is highly recommended.
    • Security Checks:
Security personnel are professional, but the process can be slow due to manual checks and outdated equipment.

    Lounge and Waiting Areas

    • VIP Lounge:
Business-class and first-class passengers, as well as priority pass holders, have access to a VIP lounge with amenities such as paid Wi-Fi, refreshments, and comfortable seating.
    • General Waiting Areas:
The standard waiting areas are serviceable but can become crowded, especially during busy travel periods. Seating availability may be an issue during these times. This area is furnished with hard iron chairs, which can be uncomfortable for extended periods. It’s often crowded and can get quite noisy. Additionally, there is no Wi-Fi available, so I usually rely on my mobile data while waiting there. The worst part is the lack of air conditioning in this area. During the harsh dry Harmattan season, the scorching heat can be unbearable, leaving you drained if you have to sit and wait for a flight for several hours.

Sarah at the general sitting section in the Douala International Airport
Sarah at the general sitting section in the Douala International Airport

    Cleanliness and Maintenance

Cleanliness is inconsistent. While airport staff work to keep the environment clean, restrooms often fall below expectations. Enhanced maintenance efforts are needed to elevate the overall passenger experience.

I have always dreaded using the restrooms here, as the stench could often be overwhelming and unpleasant. However, in 2024, I noticed a significant improvement. The toilet fixtures had been replaced, and the floors were dry and clean, making the experience much more bearable.

The tiles on the floor in the general sitting area and main entrance of the airport are some of the dullest and oldest I’ve seen at a major international airport. While they are cleaned fairly regularly, their dark and worn appearance leaves much to be desired.

    Customer Service

Staff at Douala International Airport are generally polite and helpful, but language barriers can occasionally pose challenges, especially for English-speaking travelers. Patience and a friendly attitude often ensure smooth interactions.

Douala is located in the Littoral Region, one of the eight regions in Cameroon formerly colonized by the French. As a result, 99% of the staff at the airport primarily speak French. However, there are a handful of English-speaking workers from the country’s two British former colonies, the Northwest and Southwest regions.

Overall, most staff members can assist travelers, as many understand basic English and can provide simple instructions. In more challenging situations, they usually know their anglophone colleagues and will either direct you to them or bring them over to assist. Personally, I tend to speak in French when I’m there, as it makes navigating the airport much easier.

Connectivity and Internet at the Douala International Airport

Wi-Fi availability is limited and frequently unreliable. Travelers requiring consistent internet access should consider purchasing a local SIM card or using an international roaming plan. I know only one lounge can provide better Wi-Fi options.

My best advice regarding the internet issue is to print all your travel documents before heading to the airport. Hard copies are much safer and more reliable. I nearly missed a flight once because I couldn’t access my documents online. I had to rush to a nearby documentation center, just a few kilometers from the airport, to print them. Many procedures here still rely on outdated methods.

In the past, passengers were even denied boarding for not having printed flight tickets. While there have been some improvements—such as staff using cameras to take pictures of digital tickets displayed on phones or computers—it still feels archaic. To be safe, I always print all essential documents at home. Relying on them to take pictures of documents is a frustratingly outdated practice, especially compared to modern airports where everything is fully digital.

    Baggage Handling

Baggage handling has been reported as a concern, with occasional delays or mishandling of luggage. It is advisable to pack essential items in your carry-on and ensure checked bags are securely packed.

There have been numerous reports of baggage being stolen or tampered with, with some travelers claiming their zippers or padlocks were broken. While it’s unclear if DIA staff are responsible, years ago, there were many complaints about such incidents. As a precaution, many travelers now wrap their luggage in heavy-duty airport plastic before flying. This wrapping makes it nearly impossible for thieves or anyone handling baggage to open it. It’s always better to be safe than sorry. Personally, I’ve never lost a bag or had anything go missing.

Pros and Cons of flying through the Douala International Airport

    Pros:

    • Convenient location close to the city center.
    • Basic dining and shopping options available.
    • VIP lounge with enhanced amenities.

    Cons:

    • Limited and unreliable Wi-Fi.
    • Cleanliness and maintenance can be inconsistent.
    • General waiting areas often overcrowded.
    • Occasional baggage handling issues.

    Conclusion

Douala International Airport fulfills its role as a functional gateway for travel to and from Cameroon but has room for improvement in several areas. While it lacks the sophistication of larger global airports, adequate preparation and patience can make your journey smoother. For those traveling through DLA, managing expectations and planning ahead will enhance the experience.

Do you know God is pursuing you like the woman at the well?

But He needed to go through Samaria. So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar . . . Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour. A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.”

    John 4:4–7

I encourage you to read the remarkable story of the Samaritan woman in John 4. Considered a woman with a shady past, she was gossiped about in her village and probably shunned for being a home wrecker, a “stealer of husbands.”

Now, hers is not a fictional story. She was a real person, just like you and me. Her problems and pain, like many of ours, were real and hounded her every day . . . until she encountered a very real Savior!

Despite the custom of the Jews of that day to avoid any contact with the Samaritans, whom they perceived as spiritually inferior, John records that as Jesus was traveling from Judea to Galilee, “He had to go through Samaria” (John 4:4 NLT, emphasis mine).

Pause with me and think about these words for a moment: Had toNeeded toMust. Words that speak not just of necessity, but underscore a steady resolve and even urgency! Jesus had deliberately scheduled a divine appointment with the woman at the well, though she knew nothing about it.

We know from the account that this ostracized, lonely woman had a life-transforming conversation with Jesus at the well. But make no mistake—it wasn’t she who sought out Jesus to talk to Him. It was the Savior who pursued the one whom others shunned. Do you know that He is still doing that today?

    What is your well situation?

Do you have a past that you are ashamed of? Are you struggling to overcome something that you know is destroying you? Do you feel all alone and that no one understands the pain you are going through?

I want you to know that Jesus hasn’t changed. As He was for the Samaritan woman, the loving Savior is still your very present help in your time of need (Ps. 46:1). He knows the suffering, shame, and struggles you are going through right now. And even if what you are going through is a consequence of bad life choices and mistakes of your own doing, He doesn’t abandon and forsake you.

No—a thousand times, no! He goes out of the way to have a personal appointment with you, to restore and rescue you. The fact that you are reading this right now is a confirmation that Jesus is reaching out to you with His love, grace, and forgiveness.

Talk to Him as the woman did. Taste and touch His grace and compassion for you as she did. And like her, discover Jesus’ forgiveness, freedom, and strength to walk into a bright new future.
