Singapore SIM Card: Your Ultimate Guide to Staying Connected

When traveling to Singapore, staying connected is key to making the most of your experience in this vibrant city-state. One of the first things you’ll want to consider upon arrival is getting a Singapore SIM card. For me, landing at the beautiful Changi Airport, getting a local SIM card was my first step.

Although this focuses on finding the best SIM card in Singapore, I must mention that Wi-Fi is widely available. The entire Changi Airport had Wi-Fi, and so did the hostel where I stayed. Most places I visited also offered Wi-Fi if I asked.

Here’s everything you need to know about SIM cards in Singapore to ensure seamless communication and internet access during your stay.

Why Get a Singapore SIM Card?

Singapore boasts one of the most advanced telecommunications infrastructures in the world, offering reliable coverage and high-speed internet across the island.

Getting it ensures you can easily navigate through the city using maps, stay in touch with friends and family through calls and messaging apps, and share your travel moments on social media without worrying about expensive roaming charges.

Beyond staying in touch with my family, having a Singapore SIM card was incredibly helpful for exploring tourist attractions. I relied on GPS to navigate effortlessly, discover great restaurants, and find everything I needed.

Where can you buy a Singapore SIM Card?

Upon arrival at Changi Airport, I found several options for purchasing a SIM card. There are counters at all terminals offering prepaid SIM cards from major telecom providers like Singtel, StarHub, and M1. These providers offer various packages catering to different needs, whether you require more data for streaming, unlimited local calls, or international roaming options. I regret why I didn’t buy from the airport.

If you prefer to get a SIM card later, convenience stores, such as 7-Eleven and Cheers, and electronics shops throughout the city also sell prepaid SIM cards. They typically come in standard, micro, or nano sizes, compatible with most modern smartphones.

I was surprised to find that the hostel I booked also sold SIM cards. When I asked where to buy one, they offered a few unregistered SIMs for sale. I quickly bought one but had to handle the registration process myself. It was a bit challenging for me, perhaps because I’m not very tech-savvy.

Activating your SIM card is straightforward. Simply insert it into your phone, follow the instructions provided by the telecom provider, and top up the card with the desired amount. Most SIM cards come preloaded with a certain amount of credit, which you can use to purchase data plans or make calls as needed.

I’d recommend purchasing your SIM card directly from the company’s office or at the airport counters, where the staff will patiently assist with the registration. Unlike in many other countries, buying a pre-registered SIM card in Singapore isn’t an option. I suppose this is because they prioritize tracking everyone’s activities, making identity verification essential.

    Choosing the Right Plan

Singaporean telcos offer a range of prepaid SIM card plans to suit different budgets and data requirements.

For short stays, you can opt for plans with a smaller data allowance (e.g., 5GB or 10GB) that are valid for a week or two. If you’re staying longer or anticipate heavier usage, consider monthly plans that offer larger data caps and additional benefits like free incoming calls or international calling minutes.

I choose Singtel and got the unlimited data for 5G $35/5G $40 Ultimate Plan is subjected to Fair Usage Policy of 300GB/600GB of 5G data respectivel

Once activated, my Singapore SIM card allowed me to enjoy fast and reliable 4G LTE connectivity throughout the country. Whether I was exploring iconic attractions like Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by the Bay, or navigating the bustling streets of Chinatown and Little India, having access to Google Maps and translation apps made my journey smoother.

Tips for Maximizing Your SIM Card

To make the most of your Singapore SIM card:

    – Monitor your data usage regularly to avoid exceeding your plan limits.

    – Take advantage of free Wi-Fi available in shopping malls, restaurants, and attractions to conserve data.

    – Consider adding international roaming or IDD (International Direct Dialing) services if you plan to make calls or use data outside Singapore.

A SIM card in Singapore is not just a convenience but an essential tool for travelers looking to explore the city with ease. With reliable coverage, affordable plans, and easy availability, staying connected has never been easier.

Whether you’re here for business, leisure, or both, getting a local SIM card ensures you can stay connected, informed, and make the most of your time in this dynamic city-state.

Accommodations in Cameroon: An Honest Guide for Travelers

You are planning that trip to Cameroon. That’s an awesome plan, and I celebrate your courage to dare come to the second most diverse country in Africa. If you’re like me, who compares several lodgings before boarding a bus or buying a flight ticket, here’s my honest review of what to consider before you pack your bags for Cameroon. Read to the end to get some of my tips on how I have dealt with staying at accommodations in Cameroon.

One major thing to note is that taxis in Cameroon drive only on the main road of every city. So, if you see a hotel that’s outside of the major city route, you will have to hire them and pay extra for them to take you inside. The best alternative is to rent a car or borrow one from friends. That’s always a pricey option. If you have a Cameroonian friend, it’s the most appropriate option as they’ll take you there even on foot or you can stay with them.

You’ll probably land if you use the air in either Douala or Yaoundé, two of the famous cities with international airports. These areas are part of the 8 former French colonies, while there are 2 former British colonies. It’s relevant to mention this colonial historic background because it shapes the way the accommodations in Cameroon experience will be.

Accommodations in Cameroon: the French regions

From the streets of many French cities or towns, it’s typical for houses to be crammed, poorly constructed, and weirdly designed. Construction, in general, is still ancient in many ways, so you’ll see many things that will surprise you.

As much as this review is blunt, it’s not aimed at condemning people or generalizing. There are exceptions.

Before you come, it’s extremely important to know that many accommodations don’t have online listings. That means it’s not easy to find some even from a Google Map search.

Also, even if the map indicates one, consider that time to go with a grain of salt as long as the place is not shown on the main road.

    Hotel accommodations

First, you will see several hotels dotted around if you walk around. This somehow should be a sign of the quality of the place. If it’s not listed, it probably is a 1-star facility with a lot of issues you will not want to deal with.

You just asked what kind of issues? The first one will be the cleanliness of the room. Somehow, low-star hotels have always had many problems. For example, the water was extremely dirty because they are using a private water system where water is pumped from the ground.

This borehole concept to extract pure water from the ground is increasingly becoming famous and should be reliable, but most places I have been to, their water was as brownish as the ground. I will spare you the details of some of the many things, like broken faucets, toilet pots without seats and lids, wardrobes without hangers, two colors of bathing slippers, no restaurant, very few or no toiletries, bathrooms without a bulb or a wall that has plumbing water issues. These types of hotels will surprisingly be between 5,000 – 10,000 CFA francs ($10-$20). I don’t recommend them.

What are the most important aspects to check before booking accommodations in Cameroon?

I said all that to mention that, if it’s not a 4 or 5-star hotel, please don’t consider it. These are the Hiltons, so expect to come with a heavy pocket. A few 3-star hotels could be worth your money, but read the reviews first. I spend time reading at least 7 reviews before I pay a lot for a hotel in Cameroon. I ignore this process in developed countries because I am convinced about the quality of their hygiene. However, for Africa and Cameroon in particular, this is a must-do priority.

Regarding motel accommodations in Cameroon, in the French region called auberges in the language, it’s the worst option to consider unless you are really tolerant. Most of them are in shanty parts of the city.

Majority of the issues I mentioned above for low-class hotels are worse with these facilities. Their owners almost always don’t care about the maintenance of the facilities. I have tried a few times in desperate situations where I couldn’t find a hotel and wanted a budget-friendly place. The stenches were unbearable just when the doors were opened. As you suspected, I didn’t stay there.

This is within the least of my recommendations. The hygienic conditions are extremely below standard. It’s almost impossible to find one with a comfortable mattress, clean white sheets, clean running water, and a floor without dirty stains on the tiles, which haven’t been cleaned properly for a long time.

    5000frs hotel in Ebolowa

What aspect has mostly surprised me?

One of the major reasons for this is because most of these places don’t have enough or any staff. The owners are the cleaners sometimes. It’s challenging for them to maintain the quality hygiene because of time. Also, many people use these low-quality places for prostitution or hidden extramarital affairs.

As concerns renting apartments or staying with someone via Airbnb, I recommend this option though I had extreme differences. I got a very clean, classy studio and a fairly dirty one in Yaoundé. Both places had the same prices ($17) listed on Airbnb.

Their hosts weren’t living in Cameroon though they were the ones who responded to the requests. They have workers in Cameroon who weren’t giving them the full details of how the place is. When or before you book, ensure that the host gives you the phone number of the caretaker in Cameroon to ease communication because sometimes due to timezone differences, some might delay in responding and you can be stranded.

My honest review is that renting an apartment is the best of all the scanty accommodations in Cameroon.

Are there hostels in French Cameroon?

Concerning staying at hostels, that’s not possible. I haven’t seen or heard of any. As I earlier mentioned, most people use outdoor accommodations for illicit sexual activities. They don’t want others to see them or know about their secret affairs or jobs. This, I doubt there are hostels. Somehow they are considered to be public spaces and people don’t feel like their privacy is protected. Even at the universities, all accommodation facilities can be called hostels, but each room is completely separate with an indoor toilet, and some with a kitchen.

Finally, the last option is to consider couchsurfing. I was surprised to see many people offering their homes for free to foreigners and to Cameroonians. I dared to book for a lady in Yaoundé. She quickly accepted my request. I didn’t end up going there because my plans changed, but I was impressed.

Accommodations in Cameroon: the English regions

This is the smartest population in Cameroon and it consists solely of the southwest and northwest regions. Two of the 10 regions.

Before I go into details to explain the accommodation options, I must remark that you’ll notice that the streets in these regions are cleaner than most of the French regions. The difference is very clear based on the culture. English people are more continuous with maintaining a clean environment and their construction is far better than the other part. I cannot claim that they are extremely modern in every sense, but the differences are clear.

One key example is that it’s possible to find a place in the French city where there’s no window. I mean the room is as dark as hell with no natural light from the sun. They build and put the windows within the hallways, so the room is always dark. On the other hand, I have never seen a place without at least a small window for the toilet.

Another example is some French accommodations will not have a sewage bathroom door from the bathroom section, making it very uncomfortable to share with anybody. Whereas, most of, if not all, places in the English parts have separate doors, windows. Lately, many people build and join the kitchen with the bedroom like foreign apartments, but before, it was entirely separate.

    How are the hotels?

Hotels here are cleaner and more comfortable. Of course, based on the stars, the prices will be higher, but there’s an assurance of a hygienic condition. I recommend reading reviews as always, but my observation is that rooms are more spacious, mattresses fairly comfortable, and constant running water. From the southwest region where I hail, tap water might not be regular every day, but it’s extremely clean. The source is from the mountain, so it’s reliable to drink, do laundry, and anything basic you might need it for.

I have rarely seen motels in the English regions. They might exist, but to some extent, I think the aspect of random illicit sexual activities is more regarded here than in the French areas. Most people are ashamed of the stigma of being seen coming out of the hotels with someone other than their wives. Also, many working guys have their own places, so they’re comfortable doing their private stuff at their private places. It might be an exaggeration to say if there were, it would be cleaner than those in the French regions, but I have never used any or heard of one.

What to expect at other accommodations in Cameroon

This applies to hostels too. The principle of sharing private spaces with foreigners doesn’t seem to be a thing for Cameroonians in general. The only time I have heard people sharing public rooms like a hostel is at boarding schools where the school is maximizing their building spaces. One room can have more than 4 bunk beds depending on the number of students, and male and female dormitories are always separated with a huge distance between them on the campus.

I have never used an apartment from Airbnb but I have heard stories from others. Everyone told me they were more than satisfied. The spaces were clean, modern to some extent, well maintained, and had functioning kitchens.

I saw a few people offering their places too for Couchsurfing. I don’t have a personal experience, so I cannot recommend, but if you’re daring, you lose nothing in trying.

My suggestions for all accommodations in Cameroon

For the sake of good health, whether you’re going to any of the above listed areas, I suggest buying a disinfectant. I used to ignore this before until my sister called my attention to how the possibility of non-regular cleaning, which is common in these places, can cause a health issue later. Now, I disinfect anything I know I will use or touch.

Bring extra blankets/sheets. That might sound too much for someone who just wants to pack light, but if you consider that those sheets you will be sleeping on were hand washed by one person who probably didn’t spend a lot of time on one, it might be something to be taken seriously. I have seen several laundry women washing sheets and the rinsing water was almost as dirty as the washing water.

What has been my most surprising experience?

Equally, I have the unverified feeling that to reduce the load of work, these people don’t wash sheets when clients spend only a night. I might be wrong, but that’s my impression. I say that because several times, I have seen hairs and strange stains on sheets. So now, before I pay, I ask them to show me the room. If they refuse, I quietly walk away. Most will show you if they really care. I have always spent a few minutes to observe.

If I saw any strange stain, I ask for the sheets to be changed. They’ve always done it. One motel worker at an average place in Ebolowa grumbled a bit but did what I asked.

Don’t drink tap water. This might sound like obvious advice, but as explained above, water sources are not very safe. I know only the Southwest region water is perfectly treated. I use it for everything. But water in Yaoundé and other regions are brownish and dirty. I don’t recommend traveling with white clothing unless you plan to throw it away after use.

What are the most important things to take note at accommodations in Cameroon?

See the room before you pay. One major reason to request to see the room first is so you can evaluate what facilities they are offering. They’ll give you prices, and most times, the differences are not really much. Take your time to compare each of them based on the prices before you pay.

This is not just about the money but about the hygiene too. This is my suggestion for low star facilities. I observe to see if I see roaches or rat holes, then check the toilet pot to observe, and the odor to assess if the sewage has issues, which sometimes causes a pungent smell at night hours.

Don’t use their blankets. In places like Yaoundé, where it gets cold at night, I have never used the blankets. This is because I’m unsure of how often they warm them, but I’m more concerned about where they’re dried and how they’re washed.

Some people give thick and heavy clothes like that, which cannot be washed easily with the hands, to those who wash carpets on the street. These people go to streams or use fairly dirty large pond waters to wash those. I am almost convinced they don’t pay for pressing to wash every time.

If you are like me, where the weather seriously affects our well-being, there’s always a necessity to verify if the fan or air conditioning you see in the room is working. Sometimes, it’s there, but it’s not functioning. When you pay, they’ll tell you it got bad a few minutes before you came. This is common in the French regions.

What are my final remarks about accommodations in Cameroon?

My final advice is that since most places are managed by a single receptionist, it’s not uncommon to enter a hotel and not see anyone who will attend to you. Sometimes, and many times, I have had to call the numbers I saw on the wall before waiting for a receptionist to come, and it’s never immediate. Very few have apologized for that, so don’t expect one.

On the other hand, there are some very rude receptionists who will not respond to your greetings for reasons best known to them. A receptionist in Bertoua shocked me to my bones. She replied to my smiling greeting with a hum. Then, when I asked to see the rooms before paying, she gave me the keys and proceeded to give me directions on where to find the room.

This was the peak of disrespect. I just told her I wouldn’t and would leave. She didn’t apologize or look remorseful. She told me goodbye. This is typical for French Cameroonians.

Another pointer you should consider is the outside view of the establishment. If you see the building looking old, dirty, and worn out, there’s a 99% guarantee that the interior is worse. Building plans are always done without sustainability.

So, plumbing and paints peeling off the walls is a clear proof that maintenance inside could be worse. If the curtains at the receptionist are dirty, as it’s common in the French regions, the ones in the bedroom will be having all the dust in Cameroon.

I don’t have pictures of English region hotels but I will ensure to update this later.

Cameroon to Gabon: A Road-Trip to Rethink

Did you check a map or remember from geography class that Cameroon and Gabon are neighbors? For us Cameroonians, that’s basic knowledge, but whether you’re from the CEMAC zone or beyond, this guide will give you valuable insights. CEMAC (Central African Economic and Monetary Community) is a regional organization that brings together six Central African countries: Cameroon, Chad, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo, Gabon, and Equatorial Guinea. It aims to promote economic integration, peace, and development within the region by coordinating policies, ensuring free movement of people and goods, and fostering sustainable growth. CEMAC countries share a common currency, the Central African CFA franc, and work together to enhance regional cooperation and stability.

Cameroon, located in Central Africa, is known for its diverse cultures, languages, and landscapes, ranging from beaches to rainforests and mountains. The country serves as a regional hub in Africa, with rich natural resources, vibrant cities, and a mix of both French and English-speaking communities.

On the other hand, Gabon, located on the west coast of Central Africa, is renowned for its lush rainforests, diverse wildlife, and stunning coastline along the Atlantic Ocean. The country is rich in natural resources, including oil, and has a stable political climate, making it one of the more prosperous nations in the region.

My road trip from Cameroon to Gabon didn’t end as planned, but I’m sharing my experience so your adventure might have a happier ending.

Sarah on the bike around Kye Ossi

Starting the Journey from Cameroon to Gabon

From Ebolowa, I boarded a Dynamique Express bus heading to Kye-Ossi, the last major town before Gabon. The trip took about 2-3 hours, with our driver zooming like he was running late for a race. Passing through Ambam, an old German territory, we reached Kye-Ossi in no time.

Kye Ossi is a border town in southern Cameroon, located near the border with Gabon. It serves as a key entry point for travelers between the two countries, with bustling trade and transportation activities. The town is known for its vibrant local atmosphere and is a starting point for those journeying into Gabon, making it a convenient yet sometimes tricky destination for border-crossing travelers.

Kye-Ossi is a bustling border town where Cameroon, Gabon, and Equatorial Guinea meet. From the bus station, I hopped on a motorbike for 300 FCFA to the border. This is where the real adventure began.

The Cameroon to Gabon Border Reality

At the border, I met two Cameroonian police officers who were surprisingly chatty. When I told them I was traveling to Gabon as a tourist, they were amused but skeptical. They warned me about strict Gabonese regulations, including a hefty entry fee of 40,000 FCFA ($70).

Here’s where it got complicated. According to them, Gabon would deny entry unless I had proof of accommodation or knew someone with a Cameroonian residence permit in Gabon. A simple hotel reservation wouldn’t cut it—they would call the hotel to verify your booking. No booking? No entry.

They also mentioned that Gabonese officials demand a confirmed return date. The more I listened, the more overwhelmed I felt. At this point, I realized my chances of crossing were slim without the right documents.

You will believe me more when you read the disappointing story of a Cameroonian travel biker who invested time cycling from Cameroon to Gabon. I’ll let you read the details on his blog for the full experience.

I believed them because I had read a similar story from a Polish tourist who was stuck around Kye Ossi for a long time, all due to the hotel booking requirement. You can check out his story on his website.

Border post between Cameroon to Gabon
Border post between Cameroon to Gabon

I thought I was overanalyzing until I read comments from several tourists on a reputable travel blog and Facebook group called iOverlander. Nearly everyone recommends avoiding the northern border of Gabon for similar reasons, suggesting that these policies aren’t limited to Cameroonians or Central Africans.

    The Return to Ebolowa

Disappointed, I decided to head back to Ebolowa. On the bus from Kye Ossi to Ebolowa, about 30 people were chatting like old friends. I heard from some travelers, including a Cameroonian who had lived in Gabon for 10 years with a residence permit. He showed me a paper proving his legal status and said that although the process was tough, it was possible for Cameroonians to live there peacefully.

One traveler, a professor, shared his experience. He was granted entry at the border with just his work documents, but when he arrived at the Bitam bus station, the driver demanded an additional 100,000 CFA ($140) in bribes. He was also told there would be numerous police stops, requiring more bribes, which he refused to pay. Disappointed, he turned back.

In hindsight, I regret not speaking to the Gabonese officers directly. However, I didn’t want to risk paying bribes to Cameroonian immigration officers, so I chose not to attempt the trip.

    Why Flying Might Be Better

One piece of advice stood out: avoid land borders. Getting a visa from the Gabonese embassy in Yaoundé or flying into Libreville could save you the hassle. At the airport, no one cares much about your documents if you’ve got a visa.

Why the Border from Cameroon to Gabon Is Tough

There’s a rumor that many Cameroonians commit crimes in Gabon, which has led to stricter regulations at land borders. While it’s unfair to be judged by others’ actions, it’s the reality we face.

    My Advice

If you’re determined to visit Gabon, here’s what you need:

    • A confirmed hotel booking with proof of payment.
    • A contact with a residence permit in Gabon.
    • Enough money for bribes or unexpected fees.
    • A valid visa if you’re not taking a flight.

Avoid the northern border if you can. It’s easier to enter Gabon by air or through the southern border with Congo.

    Final Thoughts

My trip from Cameroon to Gabon didn’t go as planned, but that doesn’t mean yours won’t. Come prepared, brace for surprises, and consider flying to avoid unnecessary stress. For now, I’ll stick to reading other people’s stories about Gabon—until I’m ready to try again.

If you’ve enjoyed my travel stories, you’ll find more on my blog. I share challenges, tips, and insights on crossing borders and exploring new places. Refugees in Egypt: Challenges and Ways to Help

Egypt hosts many refugees from African and Middle Eastern countries. Refugees in Egypt face significant challenges despite the country’s efforts to support them. Limited resources and opportunities make life tough for these individuals who fled their homes seeking safety.

Egypt has been hosting refugees for decades, with its history as a refuge dating back to the mid-20th century. The country is home to over 300,000 registered refugees and asylum seekers, according to UNHCR. Most refugees in Egypt come from countries like Syria, Sudan, South Sudan, Eritrea, and Ethiopia, fleeing conflicts and persecution. The country’s strategic location and historical openness make it a key destination for those seeking safety in the region.

Egypt has taken significant steps to support refugees despite its economic challenges. It allows them access to public healthcare and education, often integrating them into existing systems. The government works closely with international organizations like the UNHCR to provide assistance, while local NGOs supplement these efforts with programs for education, job training, and legal aid. However, with growing numbers of refugees and limited resources, Egypt faces challenges in meeting all their needs effectively.

Challenges Faced by Refugees in Egypt

    1. Legal and Documentation Issues
Refugees living in Egypt often face difficulties obtaining legal status. Without proper documentation, they cannot access services like healthcare and education. This situation leaves them vulnerable to exploitation.
    2. Economic Hardship
Many refugees struggle to find stable jobs. Employers hesitate to hire them due to legal restrictions. Even when they find work, it is often underpaid and exploitative.
    3. Limited Access to Education
Refugee children often face barriers to attending school. High tuition fees and language barriers make it hard for them to integrate into the education system.
    4. Healthcare Access
Refugees who are sick in Egypt frequently encounter limited access to affordable healthcare. Public hospitals are overcrowded, and private healthcare is too expensive for most.
    5. Social Discrimination
Some refugees face social discrimination and xenophobia. This hostility affects their ability to integrate into Egyptian society and find support.

How to Help Refugees in Egypt

    1. Support Local NGOs
Organizations like the St. Andrew’s Refugee Services (StARS) provide education and healthcare to refugees. Donating to or volunteering with such groups can make a difference.
    2. Advocate for Legal Reforms
Encourage policies that improve legal protections and rights for refugees seeking refuge in Egypt. Advocate for easier access to documentation and work permits.
    3. Raise Awareness
Educate others about the struggles refugees face. Increased awareness can reduce discrimination and foster a more inclusive society.
    4. Offer Employment Opportunities
Businesses can support refugees by hiring them and offering fair wages.
    5. Provide Education and Training
Donating to initiatives that fund refugee education or skill-building programs can empower them to become self-reliant.

Helping refugees staying in Egypt requires collective effort. By supporting them, we can contribute to a more humane and inclusive world.

Do you know you are a successful person?

This success is not the kind you might be thinking about. Before you proceed to read the kind of success I am referring to, just know that, God sees you as a successful person already if you believe in him.

Here’s a short devotional by Pastor Joseph Prince about it.

Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. And Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him down there. The LORD was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

    Genesis 39:1–2

Would you consider the young man Joseph, who was about to be sold into slavery, “a successful man”?

    Of course not!

Yet, God says in His own words that Joseph was a successful man.

God’s definition of success is contrary to the world’s definition. Corporate America measures success based on what you have done, what you have accomplished, and what you have accumulated. It is based entirely on you focusing all your time, energy, and resources in meriting titles and collecting accomplishments.

My friend, I want to encourage you to begin to see that the world’s model of success is unstable and built upon a foundation that is shakable. It may have the appearance of the good life, but it is temporal, and we have all seen for ourselves how the world’s transient wealth can dissipate like smoke and easily slip away like the shifting sands in the desert.

From Genesis 39:2, it is clear that success is not what you have, but rather who you have! Joseph literally had nothing materially, but at the same time, he had everything because the Lord was with him.

The material things that you have accumulated or are feverishly trying to amass do not make you a success. It is the presence of the Lord in your life that makes you a success!

We need to learn to stop pursuing things and to start pursuing Him. God sees your relationship with Him as the only thing that you need for every success in your life.

I can’t imagine starting in a worse place than Joseph. He was completely naked. He had nothing! No bank accounts, no educational qualifications, no natural connections with people of influence, nothing.

Thank God the Bible records a picture of Joseph who began with nothing, so that you and I can have hope today. If you think that like Joseph, you have nothing, well, you can start believing in the power of the presence of the Lord in your life. Start looking to Jesus and claim that promise in that scripture for yourself!

Say, “The Lord is with ME, and I am a successful person.”

Say it a hundred times if you have to, and begin to see this as your reality. Stick this promise on your mirror, and every morning when you brush your teeth, remind yourself that today, as you go to work, as you go to school, as you start the day caring for your children at home (or do whatever it is that you need to do), the Lord is with you.

And because He is with you, YOU ARE ALREADY A SUCCESS! When you have Jesus in your life, you are no longer trying to be a success; you ARE a success!

Lomé, the vibrant capital city of Togo, offers a mix of modern infrastructure and rich cultural heritage. Known for its well-maintained main roads and ease of movement, Lomé serves as a hub for the country’s political, economic, and cultural activities. The city’s attractions range from bustling markets and beautiful beaches to historical sites and lively nightlife, making it a must-visit destination for travelers exploring this small yet captivating West African nation.

All of these activities are located around the Palm Beach area, so I was thrilled to experience them all in just one day!

Unwind in Paradise at the vibrant Lomé Palm Beach

Any country with a body of water is special to me, and I couldn’t miss the opportunity to experience Lomé’s coastline. Though my limited time didn’t allow for a swim in the Togolese waters of the Atlantic Ocean, sitting by the seashore and enjoying the ocean breeze was incredibly relaxing.

One of my favorite activities is praising God by singing and praying beside oceans, lakes, or beaches. Lomé was no exception. Walking along the shores and feeling the waves splash their warm water on my feet was a truly amazing experience.

Palm Beach sits right beside the main road, and the moment you arrive, you’re greeted by vibrant art portraits displayed near the bamboo gate entrance. It’s a charming and creative touch that sets the tone for what lies beyond—a lively space with several restaurants and bars ready to cater to your cravings.

When is the best time to visit Lome Palm beach?

I visited during the peak of the day when the Togolese sun was in full force. While the beach vibes were fantastic, the heat was intense. If you’re planning a daytime trip, I’d highly recommend bringing an umbrella for some extra shade—you’ll thank yourself later!

From the artistic welcome to the variety of food and drinks available, Palm Beach offers a unique mix of culture and relaxation. It’s the perfect spot to soak up the local atmosphere.

At Palm Beach, a heap of thick yellow sand forms a natural barrier, resembling a small hill that you have to climb before descending to the water’s edge. The Togolese government has taken steps to make the beach a cooler, more pleasant place by planting new coconut trees over a wide stretch of land. These trees will take years to grow, but they are a valuable investment for future generations in the fight against global warming.

    How was my experience?

Picture this: a hot Togolese March evening, the sun has just begun its descent, and you find yourself strolling along a road lined with tall, majestic palm trees. If you’ve ever been to Lomé, you know the heat can be relentless, but these palm trees are lifesavers—offering shade, breeze, and a perfect spot to unwind.

After standing around for a while, I spotted an inviting area under one of the palms, complete with chairs thoughtfully placed for people like me. It was as if the universe had prepared this chill zone just for my escape from the sweltering weather. I plopped down, and as the cool wind worked its magic, I could finally feel the day’s tension melting away.

For three glorious hours, I basked in this perfect little oasis, feeling utterly at peace. The soothing breeze whispered through the palms, and I couldn’t resist grabbing my notebook to pen down some thoughts for my blog. Writing here felt inspired—like the trees themselves were cheering me on.

Of course, no relaxing evening is complete without a refreshing drink. I ordered a Sprite, but to my surprise, it tasted like lemonade! Sweet, zesty, and ice-cold—it was just what I needed to complement the experience.

If you ever find yourself in Lomé, especially in March when the heat is turned all the way up, I can’t recommend this simple pleasure enough. Grab a seat under the palms, let the wind cool you down, and sip on something refreshing. Trust me, it’s the ultimate chill-out spot!

Exploring the Bustling Grand Marché: Lomé’s Vibrant Market Experience

Shopping is generally cheaper at markets around Africa, and this holds true for Lomé. While I often visit malls or large supermarkets just to compare prices, I’ve found that market prices are almost like giveaways in comparison. The vibrant markets are filled with a wide variety of goods at prices that are hard to beat.

Some people say supermarkets reduce their prices for perishables in the evening, but I have yet to experience that. Instead, I found my best deals at the local markets. “Grand Marché,” as the name suggests, is one of Lomé’s largest markets where you can buy almost anything. From the roadside stalls to the interior shops, I discovered a treasure trove of items, ranging from fresh produce to unique handicrafts.

One of my favorite finds at Grand Marché was the beautiful fabric-made earrings. The intricate designs and vibrant colors caught my eye, and I couldn’t resist bringing a pair home with me. They were a perfect representation of the local craftsmanship and culture, and a delightful reminder of my time in Lomé.

The market experience in Lomé was not just about shopping but also about immersing myself in the local culture. The bustling atmosphere, the friendly vendors, and the array of goods made every visit an adventure. Whether you’re looking for everyday essentials or unique souvenirs, the markets in Lomé offer a rich and rewarding shopping experience.

Superamco Marina: A Blend of Indian Heritage and Modern Shopping in Togo

Superamco Marina is more than just a supermarket—it’s a cultural bridge that showcases the longstanding Indian influence in Togo. For decades, Indian traders have contributed to the region’s commerce and culture, bringing with them a rich array of goods and traditions. This heritage is evident at Superamco Marina, where you can find an impressive selection of Indian staples, from aromatic spices and basmati rice to traditional cookware and fabrics.

The store seamlessly combines the essence of India with the convenience of a contemporary shopping experience, making it a unique destination for both locals and tourists.

A visit to Superamco Marina offers more than just groceries; it’s an opportunity to discover a treasure trove of quality items. Shoppers can stock up on essential spices, lentils, and teas, as well as ready-to-eat Indian snacks and fresh produce. Beyond the kitchen, the store offers beauty products, home decor, and cookware that reflect Indian craftsmanship. Whether you’re looking to recreate Indian cuisine, enhance your home, or simply explore the vibrant aisles, Superamco Marina promises a shopping experience rich in culture and variety.

Restaurant Chunga: A Slice of Curiosity in Lome

After a long, lazy evening relaxing at Palm Beach, hunger struck, and I needed food—fast. Enter Restaurant Chunga, conveniently located right across the road from the former Palm Beach Hotel. With its inviting outdoor hidden garden and a cozy, air-conditioned interior, the place had the perfect vibe for unwinding and enjoying a meal. I chose a seat near the door, where the cool air met the evening breeze, and immediately ordered a margarita pizza, hoping to silence my rumbling stomach.

In just 10 or 15 minutes, my large pizza arrived, steaming hot and ready to devour. The first bite, however, was… let’s say, unexpected. A flavor I’d never encountered before stopped me in my tracks. I won’t lie—it wasn’t love at first bite. Granted, I’ve never been to Italy, so I can’t judge authenticity, but this margarita pizza and I didn’t exactly hit it off. Still, I couldn’t write off Restaurant Chunga entirely. After all, one dish isn’t the whole story, and someone else might love what I didn’t.

What makes Restaurant Chunga worth mentioning is its polished, high-class vibe and diverse menu. The staff were attentive and the atmosphere felt welcoming, whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or settling in for a long meal. From pastas and pizzas to grilled dishes, they seem to have something for every palate. If you ever visit, let me know what you tried and how it was—maybe you’ll find the perfect dish I missed!

    Conclusion

Lomé is a city that beautifully blends vibrant culture, stunning coastal views, and unique shopping experiences. Whether you’re relaxing at Palm Beach, exploring the bustling Grand Marché, or indulging in a culinary adventure at Restaurant Chunga, there’s something for everyone in this lively capital. With its warm hospitality and rich heritage, Lomé promises unforgettable moments for every traveler. Make sure to soak in the charm and discover the hidden gems this city has to offer!

Walk in Wisdom to Stay Safe

Get wisdom! Get understanding! . . . Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.

    Proverbs 4:5, 7

It gives me such assurance to know that the Lord can deliver us from trouble. But do you know what’s better than being delivered from trouble?

Not getting into trouble in the first place.

My dear reader, don’t just seek miracles and protection from God without seeking the wisdom from Him to stay protected and out of trouble. There are times when the challenges that we face are beyond our control. But I’ve found that often, we experience His protection when we follow the Holy Spirit and lean on His wisdom when making decisions.

Every day, we need His wisdom, just as we need His protection. After all, Proverbs 4:7 tells us that “wisdom is the principal thing,” and in all our getting, we need to get wisdom.

The Bible tells us that Christ has become for us wisdom from God (1 Cor. 1:30). So what we really need is the Lord Jesus. We need to lean on Him and draw close to Him daily.

He is our wisdom and only He can cause us to always be at the right place at the right time. I believe that many troubles and dangerous situations can be completely avoided when we don’t depend on our own wisdom and planning, but involve the Lord in all that we do (Prov. 3:6).

    How do you feel safe?

Oftentimes, wisdom and divine protection work hand in hand. Knowing that we can trust God for His protection certainly does not mean that we should willfully put ourselves in precarious situations.

We need to apply wisdom and heed the Lord’s leading through the wise counsel of the people around us, such as our leaders in the local church and our spouses. Proverbs 11:14 tells us, “Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.” For instance, if your spouse has been telling you that you have a problem with speeding, please take heed.

While there can be divine protection, do not be foolish and think that you can do whatever you want and nothing untoward will ever happen to you. I pray that as you involve the Lord and learn to walk in wisdom, you’ll begin to walk in a greater measure of peace, protection, and good success.

My First Day Exploring Liberia’s Historic Landmarks

Monrovia, the capital of Liberia. It is home to numerous Liberia’s historic landmarks that reflect the nation’s rich history, culture, and aspirations. From grand historical sites to modern monuments, each location tells a unique story.

Liberia, established in 1847, is Africa’s oldest republic, founded by freed African Americans through the efforts of the American Colonization Society. The nation’s history is marked by its unique blend of indigenous African cultures and the Americo-Liberian settlers’ heritage. Despite periods of civil strife, Liberia remains a symbol of resilience and unity, striving to honor its rich historical legacy.

When I was researching Liberia, I noticed something surprising—most tourists don’t seem to have much to say about it. Seriously, where are the juicy stories and glowing reviews? That’s when I realized Liberia’s charm isn’t about flashy attractions; it’s about its incredible history as one of the oldest countries in West Africa. So, I decided to dive in and share this treasure trove of key monuments you absolutely need to check out. Get ready for a little history, a lot of culture, and maybe even some Instagram-worthy spots!

Discovering Liberia’s Historic Landmarks: the Centennial Pavilion

Built in 1947 to commemorate Liberia’s centennial independence, the Centennial Pavilion is a significant historical and cultural landmark in Monrovia. Its grand architectural design blends traditional Liberian aesthetics with colonial influences, symbolizing national pride and unity.

The Pavilion has hosted numerous pivotal events, including presidential inaugurations and state ceremonies. Inside, beautifully decorated interiors feature murals and artifacts narrating Liberia’s history and celebrating its prominent figures. The spacious hall exudes dignity and grandeur, making it a fitting venue for both official and cultural celebrations.

Over the years, the Centennial Pavilion has become a cherished site for Liberians and tourists alike, representing the nation’s milestones and its aspirations for a brighter future.

    Liberia’s Centennial Pavilion

The day I visited the Centennial Pavilion, the guards were in a terrible mood—rude, harsh, and totally unapproachable. Even the Liberian guy from my lodging tried to reason with them, but nope, they weren’t having it. I’d read blogs about people bribing their way in, but there was no way I was paying to enter what’s supposed to be a public space (weddings happen there, for goodness’ sake!). Sadly, I didn’t get inside, but hey, at least I got a wild story out of it!

Photographing the Chamber of Commerce Monument

The Chamber of Commerce Monument in Monrovia stands as a striking representation of Liberia’s economic progress and entrepreneurial spirit. As a hub of business activity, it reflects the dynamism of the nation’s economy.

Monuments like these serve as visual reminders of a country’s achievements and its ongoing journey. Along with cultural landmarks, museums, and historical sites, they offer deep insights into Liberia’s identity and heritage. Capturing photographs of the Chamber of Commerce Monument allows visitors to preserve and appreciate a piece of the nation’s economic and cultural narrative.

Liberia’s economy is primarily driven by agriculture, mining, and forestry, with rubber and iron ore being major export commodities. Despite challenges, the nation has experienced steady growth in recent years, with GDP rising by an average of 3–5%. However, unemployment and poverty remain significant issues, as over 50% of the population lives below the poverty line. Liberia is making strides in economic reform and attracting foreign investment, particularly in infrastructure and energy, to boost sustainable development.

Exploring the Former Ducor Hotel: Liberia’s historic landmarks with fame

Perched on Ducor Hill, the former Ducor Hotel is a historic landmark rich in cultural significance. Opened in 1960, it was one of Africa’s first five-star hotels, symbolizing luxury and progress during its prime.

The hotel hosted numerous dignitaries and was a beacon of Liberia’s pre-civil war prosperity. During its prime, the Ducor Hotel hosted several notable dignitaries and world leaders. Guests reportedly included Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia, Ivorian President Félix Houphouët-Boigny, and Guinean President Ahmed Sékou Touré. It also welcomed high-profile visitors from various industries and organizations, as it was a hub for international diplomacy and luxury in West Africa.

Though now in ruins, it retains its mid-20th-century modernist charm and offers breathtaking panoramic views of Monrovia, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Mesurado River.

Walking through its empty halls evokes a sense of nostalgia and potential, as the site holds great promise for restoration and preservation. The Ducor Hotel remains a testament to Liberia’s vibrant history and the importance of safeguarding its landmarks for future generations.

This location is heavily secured, so be sure to follow all security guard instructions during your visit. Keep in mind that access is not always guaranteed to the public.

Visiting the Monument of Joseph Jenkins Roberts

The monument dedicated to Joseph Jenkins Roberts is the most beautiful od all Liberia’s historic landmarks. He was Liberia’s first president. This monument is a towering tribute to a pivotal figure in the nation’s history.

Born in Norfolk, Virginia, in 1809, Roberts emigrated to Liberia in 1829 and rose to prominence as a leader.

After Liberia’s declaration of independence in 1847, Roberts became its first president, serving two terms (1848–1856 and 1872–1876). He focused on building a sovereign state, fostering economic growth, and strengthening international relations.

This monument celebrates his enduring legacy as a founding father of Liberia. Through statues, institutions, and landmarks bearing his name, Roberts’ contributions to the nation’s independence and development remain vividly remembered.

The Monument of Joseph Jenkins Roberts features a tall, bronze statue of the statesman, standing atop a large stone pedestal. The statue captures Roberts in formal attire, with one hand raised, as if addressing an audience, and the other holding a book or document, symbolizing knowledge. The pedestal is engraved with his name and adorned with decorative details, giving it an air of grandeur.

The monument is surrounded by a paved area with steps leading up to it, often accompanied by neatly maintained landscaping, providing a dignified and serene setting.

I was impressed by the efforts to honor this former president. The artistic designs on the pillar were definitely my favorite part.

Admiring the oldest of Liberia’s historic landmarks

Near the former Ducor Hotel, an ancient lighthouse stands as a monument to Liberia’s maritime heritage. Historically, it guided ships and monitored foreign threats, ensuring safe passage and preventing shipwrecks.

Located atop a hill, the lighthouse offers stunning views of Monrovia and its surroundings. Beyond its practical use, it symbolizes safety and resilience, marking a strategic point of Liberia’s coastline.

As one of Monrovia’s landmarks, the lighthouse holds significant historical and cultural value, making it a fascinating site for visitors and photographers. Its enduring presence is a testament to the city’s rich maritime history.

Liberia’s historic landmarks collectively narrate the city’s past, present, and future. They are not only sites of historical significance but also sources of inspiration, reminding all who visit of Liberia’s resilience and aspirations.

A Transformative Experience: My Review of New Creation Church

If you’re seeking an uplifting and grace-filled church, New Creation Church in Singapore is a must-visit. Known for its life-changing teachings, passionate worship, and welcoming atmosphere, it’s a place where faith flourishes. New Creation Church is a non-denominational, Charismatic megachurch that was founded in 1984 by a group of young leaders, including Joseph Prince, Henry Yeo, David Yeow, and Jack Ho.

I wholeheartedly recommend New Creation Church (NCC) as a place of fellowship. For over a decade, I have been deeply blessed by the sermons of Senior Pastor Joseph Prince. My journey with his teachings began in the early 2000s, during my time at Gospel of Christ Ministry in Cameroon, where I fellowshipped. It was there that Dr. Shawn Smith introduced us to Pastor Prince’s revolutionary, grace-centered messages, describing them as divinely inspired.

Curious to learn more, I sought out Pastor Prince’s teachings for myself. Initially, I watched his short broadcasts on GOD TV through our cable network. Over the last seven years, however, I’ve transitioned to watching most of his sermons on YouTube. His messages have profoundly impacted my life, strengthening my faith and understanding of God’s grace.

This ongoing inspiration led me to take a significant step—traveling to Singapore in 2023 to worship at NCC and witness Pastor Prince in person. That journey remains one of the highlights of my life, as I will share in the narrative below.

Who is the Senior Pastor of New Creation Church?

Pastor Joseph Prince is the Senior Pastor of New Creation Church (NCC) in Singapore and a globally renowned preacher, known for his profound teachings on God’s grace. With over three decades of ministry, he has revolutionized the understanding of grace for millions around the world through his sermons, books, and online broadcasts.

His messages focus on the finished work of Jesus Christ, emphasizing that believers are loved, forgiven, and empowered to live victoriously by God’s grace. Pastor Prince’s teachings are deeply rooted in Scripture, offering practical insights that make the Bible relevant to everyday life.

In addition to leading NCC, Pastor Prince is a best-selling author of books such as Destined to Reign and The Power of Right Believing. His work has reached audiences worldwide, with many describing his messages as transformative and life-changing. Pastor Prince’s ministry extends beyond the church, with a global reach through television broadcasts, online platforms, and conferences. His passion for sharing the gospel of grace has made him a prominent voice in the Christian world, inspiring countless believers to deepen their faith and experience the fullness of God’s love.

New Creation Church: Engaging Worship That Inspires

At NCC, worship is dynamic and heartfelt. Modern music blends seamlessly with sermons that touch the soul. The worship team’s incredible talent fills the room with energy, and God’s presence.

Worshiping at New Creation Church was pure joy! I felt free to worship in my own way, often overwhelmed with tears of gratitude. For four Sundays, the vibrant worship filled me with God’s indescribable joy.

The songs were a mix of popular gospel hits and beautiful originals. One song that stayed with me was Face to Face. I can’t recall all the verses, but the chorus is etched in my heart:
“Face to face with You (2x).
Here I stand, in awe and wonder,
In the presence of my King.
Every fear will fade, every tear You wipe away.
I am complete, I am made whole, in Your presence.”

Those words brought peace to my soul. I knelt in thanksgiving, weeping with gratitude for the chance to praise God. The worship setup was incredible! High-quality musical equipment, crystal-clear sound, vibrant lights, and a giant screen with lyrics made every moment electric. Singing, dancing, and even jumping for joy felt natural and amazing. It was easily one of the best worship experiences of my life!

New Creation Church Services and Locations

Mian services are held every Sunday at The Star Performing Arts Centre, (SPAC) owned by NCC, a stunning venue that enhances worship. This Centre in Singapore is an architectural masterpiece and a world-class infrastructure. NCC uses just one part. Located in the vibrant area of Buona Vista, this state-of-the-art facility boasts a 5,000-seat auditorium with excellent acoustics and cutting-edge audio-visual technology. The sleek and modern design provides a welcoming atmosphere, making it an ideal space for large gatherings, conferences, and performances.

The venue also features comfortable seating, spacious foyers, and easy accessibility, ensuring a seamless experience for attendees. Its blend of functionality and elegance has made it a popular destination for events, offering a truly memorable experience for all who visit.

The SPAC in Singapore is not just a venue; it’s a complete experience. The building houses several restaurants and shops, making it convenient for visitors to dine and shop before or after events. Here are some reviews from Google.

My Experience at New Creation Church

NCC is massive, with thousands attending every Sunday. To manage the crowd, there are two services at The Star. Pastor Joseph Prince usually preaches during the first service, which is the one to attend if you want to see him live. His sermon is rebroadcast in the second service.

On my first visit, I felt sad because Pastor Prince was on sabbatical. One of the leaders welcomed me, prayed with me, and encouraged me to believe I’d see him. God answered my prayer! On my second Sunday, Pastor Prince unexpectedly showed up. I was so overjoyed I cried! For the rest of my visits, I didn’t see him again, but his trained pastors delivered amazing sermons, and we even watched a pre-recorded message on the big screens.

With time to spare during my vacation, I made the most of my NCC experience. Between services, I spent two hours exploring The Star. The building is gigantic, perfect for window shopping and grabbing a bite. I enjoyed some delicious meals, including a stop at Nando’s—a favorite of mine from Malaysia. If you’re visiting, I highly recommend it!

Where Else Can You Fellowship at NCC?

New Creation Church has a registered congregation of 31,000, with a weekly attendance of 14,700 in 2022. While The Star Performing Arts Centre is the main venue, NCC has expanded to six service locations across Singapore, including concert halls, theaters, and ballrooms.

Since I knew I wouldn’t see Pastor Prince live again, I decided to visit another venue at one of the famous Marina Bay Sands hotels. NCC rents several large halls on the top floor, where services are live-streamed from The Star. The vibe was similar, with a different praise team, fewer instruments, but the same songs and service structure. After the service, congregants gathered in another hall for coffee and fellowship.

Sarah at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel New Creation Church branch
Sarah at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel New Creation Church branch

I was warmly welcomed by several people, and one lady went out of her way to help me register for the youth conference. The delicious coffee and friendly atmosphere made me feel right at home. Given the thousands of people who visit Marina Bay daily, it’s a great strategic location for one of NCC’s branches!

Can’t make it in person? Join the church’s global community online.

Details on service times and locations are easy to find on the church’s website and app.

How Am I Involved in NCC?

Since my return, I’ve continued watching Pastor Prince’s sermons on YouTube, even though they’re no longer live. I’ve also subscribed to the daily devotional on his website, where I receive uplifting emails directly from the church’s communication team. I also share these devotionals on my social media platforms daily, as well as some on my blog. My desire is for others to be blessed and encouraged, just as I am every day.

Sometimes, I get sermon excerpts and encouraging words that remind me of God’s love.

One of the best features of the joseph prince app is the Bible study section, which offers tons of videos of Pastor Prince expounding on the Bible. For my 2025 goal to read the entire Bible, I plan to use the app exclusively. As a Gospel Partner, I support the ministry’s efforts to spread the Gospel worldwide in various languages by sharing and donating whenever I can. It’s truly been a blessing to remain connected and involved, even from continents away.

    Nurturing Kids and Youth

New Creation Church is committed to raising the next generation in faith. Rock Kidz, the children’s ministry, offers fun activities and age-appropriate Bible lessons. Teenagers connect through Generation Youth (GY), where they grow spiritually and participate in exciting events and mission trips.

I was fortunate to attend one of the youth conferences, and it was an absolute blast! The church is truly intentional about creating a fun, God-centered experience for the young generation. The conference was well-structured and organized—participants had to register online, which I did.

On the day of the event at The Star, the venue was beautifully decorated, and there were so many youths, which really impressed me. The event kicked off with Christian games, dance performances, and a host of other activities. We were treated to free food and drinks, and we even received fans to combat the hot Singapore weather, along with a variety of encouraging items. These activities took place in the lobbies.

Youth Conference at New Creation Church
Youth Conference at New Creation Church

The second part of the conference moved into the church auditorium, where we had an energetic praise and worship session. We sang, danced, and celebrated being youthfully alive. Shortly after, the youth pastor delivered a powerful 30- to 40-minute sermon. By the end, several youths chose to give their lives to Christ. It was the perfect way to wrap up my final days in beautiful Singapore!

    Build Community with Connect Groups

Small groups, called Connect Groups, are the heart of New Creation Church’s community. These gatherings create a space for members to study the Bible, pray, and support one another. Whether meeting in homes or online, Connect Groups help you forge meaningful relationships while deepening your faith.

I heard about this but didn’t inquire in detail since I knew I would be leaving the country. However, if I were staying longer, I definitely would have joined one.

Making a Difference Through Outreach and Missions

New Creation Church actively reaches out to those in need, both in Singapore and worldwide. Partnering with organizations, the church offers practical help and shares God’s love. Members can join mission trips to bring hope and transformation to communities globally.

I learned about NCC’s global collaborations during the service when Pastor Prince was there. Apparently, he doesn’t just send members to carry out mission activities; he sends his close associate pastors. That Sunday, none of them were in Singapore, and I like to think Pastor Prince came because of me! He took a few minutes to share pictures and videos of the mission activities his pastors were leading in various Asian countries. There are definitely many. You can find more details about these mission works on the church website.

Special Events to Grow and Celebrate

From worship nights to international conferences, New Creation Church hosts events that inspire and equip believers. Renowned speakers and worship leaders create unforgettable experiences. Events like the Grace Revolution Tour are highlights you won’t want to miss.

I’ve seen videos of Pastor Prince ministering at Hillsong conferences in Australia and alongside Joel Osteen in the USA. I’m sure he ministers at many other events as well.

    Why Visit New Creation Church?

New Creation Church is a haven of grace, joy, and community. It’s a great place for those starting their faith journey or wanting to grow deeper in God’s love. The focus on grace creates a transformative experience that leaves you refreshed and inspired.

Secondly, I recommend attending the church because it’s a wonderful opportunity to fellowship with other believers. I was pleasantly surprised and encouraged by the practice of taking communion every Sunday. The church provides it for free in small packs, and everyone picks one upon arrival.

The church offers an amazing welcome package to all first-timers, which includes a free book, encouraging leaflets, and resources authored by Pastor Prince himself.

Find Your Place at New Creation Church

New Creation Church is more than a church—it’s a family. With inspiring worship, active ministries, and a global reach, it’s a place where you can encounter God’s love and grace. Visit in Singapore or online to experience the difference for yourself!

The Mosaic of Mombasa: Waves and Whispers of History

Mombasa, Kenya’s vibrant coastal city, is a melting pot of cultures, history, and natural beauty. Its old town enchants visitors with narrow streets, ancient architecture, and the lingering scents of spices, while its beaches offer soft sands and tranquil waves.

The city pulses with life, from colorful markets and bustling matatus to modern malls and diverse cuisine. Mombasa’s charm lies in its ability to blend the past and present, offering travelers a unique experience filled with warmth, history, and adventure.

When I landed in Mombasa in 2022, I was unsure which part will be best to live in. All I wanted was the beach. Bamburi quickly became my choice. Bamburi, is a lively coastal area in Mombasa. It is known for its stunning beaches, bustling markets, and vibrant local culture.

The golden sands of Bamburi Beach invite relaxation, while the nearby shops and stalls offer everything from handcrafted souvenirs to refreshing roadside coconuts. With its mix of natural beauty and urban energy, Bamburi is a perfect spot for both tranquil beach therapy and adventurous exploration.

Here are a few things I did within a couple of days of enjoying the coastal life in what I consider Kenya’s second most influential city.

Bamburi Beach: A Therapy in the Sand

I arrived at Bamburi Beach without a swimsuit, but the roadside shops had everything anyone could need. Instead of diving into the waves, I freed my colorful Kenyan slippers and let the sand kiss my feet. The beach was warm, the breeze playful, and the waves whispered tales of hope.

As I walked, humming songs and offering prayers, I felt each splash against my feet like therapy for the soul. The waves reminded me of life’s rhythm—God’s endless grace, whether life’s tides are high or low.

The sand was soft, embracing my feet with every step, though the wind tangled my thick afro and sprayed salty water on my edges. By sunset, my hair felt brittle, but the joy of the experience was worth the rinse when I returned home.

Before leaving, I indulged in roasted corn by the roadside. Its charred aroma was familiar, a nostalgic bite that connected Kenya and Cameroon, though the freshness was not quite the same.

    Market Adventures: A Pricey Lesson

My friend’s request for Kenyan beaded sandals took me deep into the buzzing Mombasa market. The stalls were alive with color and chatter, a labyrinth of treasures waiting to be found. I called my friend via video to pick her favorites. They heard my accent and knew I was a foreigner. “Four dollars,” they said, and I thought I’d struck a bargain. Proudly carrying my purchase, I stumbled upon another stall.

The sandals were a mere $1.50 there. I showed the new vendors my overpriced buy, and their laughter was contagious. Scammed three times in one market! Embarrassed but amused, I joined in their laughter.

A fresh roadside coconut soothed my thirst and my pride.

My advice? Always ask locals for price guidance—it’s wisdom I somehow ignored that day.

City Mall: Shopping Under the Sun

City Mall in Bamburi is a bustling hub of activity, offering a blend of modern shopping and cultural charm. From stylish boutiques and local craft stalls to rooftop treasures like handmade leather wallets and vibrant Kenyan art, the mall has something for everyone. Its open-air section, bathed in sunlight, showcases the creativity of local artisans, making it a perfect spot to shop for unique souvenirs while soaking in the lively coastal atmosphere.

City Mall had treasures of its own, from handmade leather wallets to vibrant Kenyan art. On the rooftop, I found a wallet so well-crafted that it remains in my pocket today, a souvenir of high quality at a surprisingly low cost.

Wooden sculptures, colorful clothing, and sandals filled the stalls. The open-air section glowed under the sun, each item a piece of Kenya’s vibrant culture.

    Wandering Through Old Town Mombasa

Old Town in Mombasa is a captivating blend of history and culture, where narrow streets wind through centuries-old buildings adorned with intricate wooden carvings and balconies. The air is filled with the scent of spices and sea breeze, reflecting the town’s rich Swahili, Arab, and Portuguese influences.

Walking through its alleys reveals hidden gems like antique shops, historical landmarks, and bustling markets, each whispering stories of a bygone era. Old Town is a living museum, offering a glimpse into Mombasa’s vibrant past.

I heard a lot about this place and I was curious. Indeed, Old Town Mombasa is a page torn from history. The ancient houses stood proud, their intricate architecture whispering tales of the past.

The streets carried the scent of time, with every turn revealing a monument, a story, or a shadow of the past. The charm of Mombasa’s old town lies in its timelessness, a perfect counter to its bustling modernity.

I took a loud, colorful matatu bus, feeling like I’d been wrapped in a kaleidoscope. It was cheap and cheerful, though navigating Uber proved a challenge.

    Fast Bites and Slow Discoveries

Hungry and curious, I tried KFC in Mombasa. The fries lacked crunch, and the chicken’s dough tasted oddly raw. Still, it filled my stomach, a quick fix for a traveler on the move. For a deeper culinary experience, I sought local Kenyan dishes.

Kenyan food is a flavorful fusion of indigenous ingredients and cultural influences, offering hearty dishes like ugali, sukuma wiki, and nyama choma. Fresh seafood is a coastal favorite, while inland regions highlight grains, beans, and rich stews. The vibrant use of spices and herbs adds a unique depth to Kenyan cuisine, making every meal a celebration of its diverse heritage.

A bowl of rice and chicken sauce welcomed me one day. Its thick, flavorful gravy mirrored my own recipes, though the spices carried an non-native mystery. Another day, the hotel receptionist convinced me to try ugali with egg sauce and vegetables. The fufu was different from Cameroon’s, heavier and less familiar. But the leafy garnish on my plate made the meal feel like art, and I savored the moment.

If you are not a picky eater like me, you’ll probably like Kenyan food.

Mombasa offered me waves, laughter, lessons, and tastes I’ll never forget. From the sands of Bamburi to the crowded alleys of its market, every corner sang a different song. Each step was a reminder of life’s surprises—sometimes salty, sometimes sweet, but always memorable.
